Pokémon is a franchise that has been in the public eye for decades, with trading cards, animated series, games and merchandise to collect to your heart’s content. There is plenty of official apparel to love, but here at Sneaker Fortress, we wanted a little more. Here, to celebrate International Pokémon Day and countless other Pokémon trainers, we decided to design this custom concept for Air Jordan 1 “Pikachu” sneakers.

Air Jordan 1 “Pikachu” Sneakers
While there are plenty of beautiful Pokémon to choose from, you can’t honestly tell me there is a more recognisable Pokémon out there than Pikachu. With this in mind, when thinking of a design concept to celebrate International Pokémon Day, we couldn’t help but be inspired by the little electric type that we all know and love.
These Air Jordan 1 High sneakers have an almost all-yellow colourway, with accents of black and a touch of red thrown into the mix for some highlights.

Starting from the bottom, we see that the outsole and midsole have been unified into one solid piece thanks to the uniform colour of bright Pikachu-esque yellow. This same yellow makes its way up onto the upper. The toe box, upper-lace unit and collar area are the only solid yellow overlays. At the same time, the mudguard, lower lace stays, the quarter, and the heel counter all use dots and little rounded-edged triangles to bring a little life and the idea of Pikachu’s black-tipped ears into the mix.
The Nike Swoosh logo on this pair is black leather to help drive this idea home a little better, matching the black mesh of the inner lining of the sneakers and the Air Jordan Wings logo on the ankle of the sneakers, tying everything together.
The ankle area is a soft yellow suede that brings across the idea of the fuzzy texture of the sweet but protective little Pokémon.
The biggest highlight of the sneakers is, without a doubt, the adorable little cheeks that appear on the quarter of the sneakers beneath the leather Nike Swoosh logo, appearing in a bright red that is outlined with a ring of back, perfectly matching the animation style of the sneakers.

International Pokémon Day 2024
Today, February 27th, 2024, is Pokémon Day. Celebrating a franchise that started almost three decades ago, the President and CEO of The Pokémon Company hosted a special Pokémon Presents event sharing all of Pokémon’s future plans for the franchise. The video included details on the exciting new Pokémon titles that will be coming in the future, Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.
September 8th, 2023, might have marked the end of the original Pokémon series, but the franchise shows no signs of slowing down now. Thankfully, that means that we will have plenty more Pokémon Days to celebrate in the future.
Would you wear these Air Jordan 1 “Pikachu” sneakers if they were real? Let us know in the comments what you did to celebrate International Pokémon Day this year!
