Greetings, Programs! Many cycles have passed since the last film in the Tron lineup, but a new adventure into The Grid is imminent. With Disney revealing an enticing first look at TRON: Ares back in February 2024, fans of the cult classic series eagerly await their return to the digital utopia next year. Think futuristic cityscapes, vibrant neon lights, and sleek, high-tech fashion. But while we’re biding our time for the film’s release, let’s turn our attention to some impressive concept sneakers that capture the essence of the film’s aesthetic—a pair of Air Jordan 11 “Tron: Ares” sneakers.
What to Expect from TRON: Ares
Before we dive into the shoe, let’s take a moment to appreciate what the upcoming film has to offer. This sequel builds upon the seminal 1982 film TRON and its 2010 follow-up, TRON: Legacy. While the original hero, Jeff Bridges, returns to reprise his role as the brilliant video game creator Kevin Flynn, it’s still uncertain whether his son Sam Flynn, played by Garrett Hedlund, will make an appearance.
Of course, there’s also the exciting addition of Academy Award winner Jared Leto, who will take on the leading role in this instalment. Leto’s character, Ares, is described as a “highly sophisticated programme” sent from the digital world to the real world on a dangerous mission. This new dynamic promises to bring fresh energy to the TRON universe.
Besides Bridges and Leto, the cast of Tron: Ares includes an impressive roster of talent. Notable names include Greta Lee (Past Lives), Evan Peters (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Hasan Minhaj (Patriot Act), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), and sci-fi queen Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) are all set to appear. With such a stellar ensemble, there’s no doubt that the film is shaping up to be a worthy addition to the TRON franchise.
But another thing that excites us is the possibility of seeing many breathtaking sneaker designs inspired by the film’s futuristic and sleek aesthetic— something like the Air Jordan 11 “Tron: Ares”.
A Closer Look at the Sneaker Design
Much like how blue lightsabers are synonymous with heroes and red ones with villains in the Star Wars universe, these colours also symbolise the good and evil characters in the Tron world. Considering this concept, we’ve designed two contrasting pairs of Air Jordan 11 “Tron: Ares” sneakers.
At their core, both pairs share the same fundamental elements. A glossy black patent leather mudguard mimics the sleek suits of Tron characters. This is complemented by a plush black suede tongue and a dark black outsole. The dark tones are balanced by a light grey on the shoe’s upper half. From there, each pair diverges in design.
The hero’s version features light blue laces and glow-in-the-dark lace tabs adorned with “Tron” lettering, whereas the villain’s pair replaces these with striking red alternatives. Likewise, the sole units vary, too, with the blue pair showcasing a grey midsole and black outsole, while the red pair flaunts a red midsole paired with a black outsole.
Both pairs are finished with a “Tron” hangtag and a stylish box that aligns with the movie’s theme. The overall aesthetic is retro-futuristic and truly unique, making these sneakers a perfect addition for fans who want to immerse themselves in the Tron universe.
We certainly feel that the shiny patent leather mudguard and futuristic aesthetics of the AJ11 make it a stellar choice for a Tron-inspired sneaker. So, if the Tron film ever gets its own commemorative kicks (as many movies do), we’re crossing our fingers that this stunning 1995 model will be the chosen one (totally different sci-fi movie, I know). But we’ll just have to wait until 2025 to see if Tron-themed Jordans will become a reality.
When is Tron Ares Coming Out?
The eagerly awaited Tron Ares began production in January and is set to hit cinemas on October 10, 2025. In the meantime, while you’re counting down the many months until its release, you can stream both Tron and Tron: Legacy on Disney+. You also won’t want to miss out on the animated series Tron: Uprising, which splendidly bridges the gap between the two films.
