An increasing number of official sneaker designs have been drawing inspiration from cartoons of yesteryear to create eye-catching styles for sneakerheads to fawn over. Whether it’s the 2023 Nike SB PowerPuff Girl Dunks, the Ninja Turtle-themed collection from Puma and Lamelo Ball, or even his Scooby Doo-themed sneakers, these releases have demonstrated that fusing pop culture with sneaker culture is a winning formula. Of course, there is greater freedom to play around with this formula in the realm of custom sneakers, which is likely why artists like Javornie Brathwaite (@jsbthecreator) have created some incredible designs that pay homage to well-known cartoons. This artist has tapped into a number of nostalgic childhood memories, from Kids Next Door to Samurai Jack, but one of our favourites so far is his “Dexters Lab” Jordan 5.

A Closer Look At The Design

The base of Brathwaite’s custom design somewhat reminds us of the newly released Air Jordan 5 “White Black,” which is currently available to purchase on Nike.com. It has an identical white upper and black midsole pairing, which, in this case, perfectly represents Dexter’s coat and shoes.

However, several noticeable adjustments have been made to the shoe’s appearance, such as the addition of blue netting on the sides to reference the colour of his glasses, a plush orange interior for his hair, and purple sole highlights to symbolise the Boy Geniuses gloves. And in case someone doesn’t catch the connection to the iconic cartoon character, “Dexter’s Laboratory” branding is added to the heel to seal the deal.

Brathwaite clearly gave the design of these sneakers a lot of care because every detail is so well-chosen to capture elements of Dexter’s signature style. These shoes are an essential addition to your collection if you were or are a fan of the beloved Cartoon Network show.

How To Get A Pair Of “Dexters Lab” Jordan 5s

If you’re interested in purchasing this custom Jordan 5, keep an eye on Brathwaite’s Instagram page for updates on its availability. The sneaker artist has guaranteed that these will be released shortly, so you don’t want to miss out on a chance to snatch these.

Other cartoon-inspired custom designs worth checking out include the Courage the Cowardly Dog Nike Dunks, Nike SB Dunk Low’ Stitch’ and the Nike SB Dunk Low “Sulley”. And remember to follow us here at Sneaker Fortress for more custom and concept kicks.
