There is nothing quite like a good black and red colourway to keep you going. Nike has a ton of official and beautiful Bred colourways under their belt. Still, they don’t have an Air Jordan 6 “Red Python” colourway, so we thought we would try and see what happened. What followed was this beautiful custom concept sneaker.

Air Jordan 6 “Red Python”

After its initial release in 1991, the Nike Air Jordan 6 has always had a special place in sneaker history. Some stunning black and red sneakers have been released for the silhouette, like the “Black Infrared” in 2019 and the gorgeous “Toro Bravo” of 2023.

Here at Sneaker Fortress, we decided that one of the black and red looks that we would love to see on the Air Jordan 6 silhouette is some snakeskin. What better way to make our dreams come true than to do it ourselves?

Introducing the gorgeous Air Jordan 6 “Red Python”. Starting off from the bottom, we see that the outsole has been coloured with a classic black outsole, which is complemented by white cutouts surrounded with semi-translucent clear rubber, allowing the different sections of the outsole to shine through.

The midsole and the outsole are practically a single unit on this pair, only separated by the fact that the outsole is matte and the midsole is a much shinier rubber. Of course, the visible Air unit hidden within the heel is on full display thanks to the little cutout window on the side.

Moving on to the beautiful upper, it would have been easy to just cover the entire sneaker in snakeskin leather, but rather than that, we’ve gone with a split look. Keeping a smooth, perforated black leather towards the back of the sneakers, the toe area and halfway up the foot has a snake-skin-like texture. Having the black section of the sneakers split in this way adds a level of sophistication that would have been sorely missed without this design detail.

Overlayed across the entire upper is more leather, this time giving off the appearance of snakeskin without actually having the texture of it, thanks to the mottles and speckles of black throughout the red tumbled leather. This red leather crosses the lace stays, surrounding the heel counter and up the ankle to complete the look.

Many of the general elements of a classic pair of Air Jordan 6 sneakers have been maintained, such as the laces, the TPU tongue tab, and the heel tab, which is a rigid loop of TPU. A classic leather diamond with a red Jumpman logo covers the top laces.

Let’s face it, there is nothing particularly groundbreaking about these sneakers. However, they are also a colourway that the sneaker community would be better off having if they were real.

Colourful Concept

As mentioned above, these sneakers are, unfortunately, merely a concept. It would be amazing to see this pair in real life, but they must remain a figment of our imagination for now. If you can’t get the idea of these beautiful sneakers out of your head, don’t worry. The Shoe Surgeon has made his own Black and Red Python sneakers in the past, and you could commission your own if you don’t mind parting with a pretty penny.

Would you wear these stunning Air Jordan 6 “Red Python” sneakers if they were real?
