New Balance’s 1906 model splashes in the sneaker world, returning in R and L variations in 2024. Their latest announcement includes one exciting new colourway for the New Balance 1906R model and a full pack, including three colour variations on the “Polka Dot” theme.
New Balance 1906R “Polka Dot” Pack
Unlike many exciting collaborations emerging from New Balance in 2024, this pack is an in-house creation by New Balance’s designer, Yue Wu. Wu goes by @flyin_asparagus on Instagram and is a regular footwear designer for New Balance’s lifestyle collections.
Wu first displayed the sneakers on his Instagram page in February 2024, and fans have been looking forward to the pack ever since.
Releasing in three distinct colourways, which we will explore in just a moment, the sneakers feature all of the same curated comforts that made the 1906R model popular in the first place, including their patented ABZORB technology in both the midsole and heel, providing cushioning, compression, stability and an unparalleled level of comfort.
Of course, New Balance’s N-ergy cushioning is also present throughout the sneakers, once again providing comfort and support, which makes the New Balance range some of the most comfortable sneakers on the market.
These sneakers also feature extra arch support thanks to their stable webbed outsole, engineered mesh upper, and strategic synthetic leather overlays. Finally, the rubber outsole provides traction and support. All these elements work together to make an incredibly comfortable and versatile pair of sneakers that is now gaining a whole pack of lifestyle colourways.
Black
Starting off the pack strong with their darker option, the mostly black pair in the pack has a gorgeous night-sky-inspired look. Its black mesh base is gorgeously adorned with white polka dots contrasting the black.
Under the synthetic leather overlays, the white mesh polka dots almost resemble moons suspended in the night sky, giving the sneakers a distinctive look.
Beige
Sitting literally and figuratively slap-dab in the middle of the black-and-white shade, the beige pair uses the namesake colour as well as warm bone shades to bring the sneakers to life, offering a much more typical lifestyle approach.
Offering less contrast between the upper’s beige mesh and the polka dots’ warm bone accents, this option screams lifestyle. It offers a much more subtle approach to the collection. With matching beige overlays and a slight contrast of warm bone on the sole unit, these sneakers are bound to be a lifestyle favourite.
White
On the opposite end of the spectrum from the black pair, the predominantly white pair inverts the look, with white blanketing most of the shoe while black makes up certain elements, like the branding writing and the polka dots throughout the sneakers.
Combining stark white for the mesh and off-white for the overlays, midsole, and outsole, the slight variation of the white shade really helps to add a little depth to the sneakers.
What we like about them
While the collection doesn’t include any crazy colours, the real draw of the New Balance 1906R “Polka Dot” pack is its simplicity. The polka dots are just enough of a pattern and design touch to be stylish without detracting from the inherent gorgeousness of the New Balance 1906R’s design.
Although this pack spotlights only three different colourways, all of which could be considered neutrals, the diversity of the shades offers a little something for every sneakerhead, those who love a darker look, a lighter look, or something in between.
New Balance 1906r Polka Dot Release Details
While there isn’t a set release date for this pack just yet, sneakerheads expect these sneakers to hit shelves sooner rather than later, especially given Yue Wu’s track record.
There aren’t too many details about the release or pricing of the pack; however, New Balance prices its 1906R models at $154.99, so you can expect each of the sneakers in this pack to retail for about the same.
Stay tuned for further details on this release and when you can expect them to be added to the New Balance website.
