New Nike Safari Dunks Are Wild

The New Nike SB Dunk Low “Safari” Is Wild

Since Nike went all out on SB Dunk Low sneaker collabs to celebrate the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, sneakerheads have been excitedly waiting to see what the brand will be dropping in celebration of this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Thanks to a couple of leakers, it seems Nike will drop a wild pair of Nike SB Dunk Low sneakers in a “Safari” colourway to commemorate the occasion.

In 2021, the Tokyo Olympics marked the first year that skateboarding would be considered an Olympic sport. Nike celebrated the occasion accordingly with a slew of Nike SB Dunk Low colourways in originals and collaborations with brands like Bandai, FTC, Parra, and Quartersnacks. While there might not be an entire slew on the lineup this year, it seems that Nike intends to keep up the tradition with another Olympics-themed pair of Nike SB Dunk Low sneakers.

While there are still no official images of the sneakers, both leaked images share a colourway that is predominantly black and grey, with pops of colour in the form of accents throughout the sneakers.

Starting from the bottom of the sneakers, the outsole features black rubber, which is complemented by a white midsole. The midsole is horizontally bisected by a line of black threading, which adds a surprising amount of intrigue to the base of the sneakers.

From there, the upper base is supple and plain grey leather, making up the perforated toe box, the quarter and the collar area of the sneaker before transitioning to exciting overlays over each section. The overlay features Nike’s iconic safari print across the mudguard, lower lace stays, and the lace unit that runs along the upper foot. Finally, the upper lace stays and transitions into a heel counter that wraps around the back of the sneaker to join at the other side.

The Nike Swoosh logo on this pair is in stunning pitch-black leather that matches the outsole, tongue, and heel tab, creating an exciting contrast between the collar and inner lining, the labels, and the branding embroidery.

Speaking of the inner lining and the branding, those have been supplied as an orange accent. This colour dramatically contrasts the teal (or Chlorine Blue, according to Brandon) laces supplied by the pair.

@brandon1an was the first to leak the information that we can expect the Nike SB Dunk Low “Safari” this year in celebration of the Paris Olympics via X on the 26th of January, along with a mock-up depiction of what we can expect the sneakers to like and a suggested release date of sometime in June. Many sneakerheads were speculative until a second source corroborated the leak on Instagram.

Just yesterday, @xcsnkr shared an early look at the sneakers on Instagram, stating that the release date would be sometime in 2024 but sharing little more detail than the original leak. There is no official release date other than we can expect them this year. It would be logical if the sneakers are a pair intended to celebrate the Paris Olympics.
