Kevin Durant, now on his 16th signature sneaker with Nike, is bringing back the beloved, out-of-this-world KD4 Galaxy from 2012. With its silver hue, which pays homage to astronaut space suit attire, there are not many other sneakers like it on the court today. And for that very reason, it’s feeling the love from sneakerheads across the globe.
The Nike KD IV “Galaxy” (2024) release is not merely a reissue, though. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of the KD 4 Galaxy. Originating from the 2012 All-Star Weekend in Orlando, the sneaker’s intricate details, such as the 3M reflective strap and the glow-in-the-dark outsole, are not just stylistic choices but nods to the vastness and mystery of outer space. Because… of course.

From the thematic galaxy midsole to the NASA-inspired tongue badge, each element of the Nike KD4 Galaxy’s design echoes the grandeur of space exploration. The sneaker’s colourway, a harmonious blend of cosmic elements, is a visual representation of Kevin Durant‘s transcendent talent and the boundless possibilities of space.
Anyone who wears them will feel it, too: the bounce, the speed and the sense of power. They’re made for serious athletes, after all. So, while I think they are fashionable too – although I’m not sure any outfit would really match these kicks – these are probably going to be seen more in gyms, basketball courts and on running tracks. Having said that, given that they glow in the dark, I’m sure they look amazing at night though.
Personally, I first thought this wasn’t to my taste. But after writing this, they’re really warming up to me. It’s the details that really impresses me.
The Nike KD4 Galaxy sneakers are more than just footwear; they are a bridge between the realms of basketball excellence and the infinite expanse of the universe. Yes, that sounds like a mouth full, but owning these sneakers is not just about making a fashion statement; it’s about embracing a piece of history, a symbol of the era when sneakers transcended their athletic origins to become cultural icons. With the KD4 Galaxy, Nike once again invites us to look beyond the horizon, dream big and reach for the stars.
