In the mid-90s, when rap still smelled like cassette tape and street corners, 2Pac (Tupac Shakur) shaped more than just music. He shaped how we all dressed. His fits worked because they felt authentic, not staged for a camera that didn’t exist yet. Before influencers chased deals like they do today, 2Pac treated style as an important part of his image. Ink on skin. Gold on neck. A nose ring. And, of course, cool sneakers. Looking back at it now, many of his choices for kicks still hold up. Not bad for someone who never needed a brand deal to sell style. Here’s a look at the iconic sneakers 2Pac wore.

Take a trip back to 1991. You’re watching 20-year-old 2Pac pace through “Trapped,” from 2Pacalypse Now. The video looks crunchy, yet your eyes lock onto Nike Air Max 90s, released in 1990. That choice tells you everything. Pac dressed ahead of the curve, even then.

2. Nike Air Force 180

Poetic Justice hit cinemas in 1993, with 22-year-old Tupac Shakur as Lucky, smitten with Janet Jackson, then 27. Your eye keeps drifting to his Nike Air Force 180s, the same kicks Charles Barkley wore while bullying the paint at 30. You’re watching hip-hop, hoops, and style collide.

3. Nike Air Flight ’89

Rap beef went nuclear when “Hit ‘Em Up” dropped, a sonic mushroom cloud. You focused on the bars. Sneakerheads clocked the feet. While 2Pac swung verbal haymakers, his sneaker pick stayed calm: Nike Air Flight ’89s. Not Jordan 4 hype. Just a low-key overlooked silhouette stealing attention.

4. Fila Grant Hill II 96

You’ve seen the cover. On “All Eyez on Me”, 2Pac hits peak mode, rocking Fila Grant Hill II 96s. Grant Hill gifted them. Michael Miller caught it. Those sneakers aren’t trivia. They’re context. When you talk hip-hop style, you start here, whether your shelf holds vinyl or dusty kicks.

5. Air Jordan 9

Miller’s camera didn’t miss much. He also caught 2Pac rocking Air Jordan 9s, Tinker Hatfield’s 1993 design that meant more than style. The sole carried multiple languages, a quiet flex that matched Tupac’s reach beyond borders.

6. Fila FX-100

Tupac was also seen donning the Fila FX-100, particularly around the time he dropped the socially aware track “Keep Ya Head Up.” These sneakers were more than just feet candy—they were an epitome of the era’s hip-hop ethos.

7. Timberland

And let’s not forget the Timberland boots—those cultural landmarks synonymous with Tupac’s persona. Whether it was in videos, live gigs, or even his Coachella hologram, these boots were a testament to Tupac’s immutable style.

2Pac’s sneakers serve as more than just stylistic footnotes. They’re historic markers, the sinew connecting a life punctuated by lyrical brilliance and real-world vicissitudes. As we continue to unpack the enigma that is Tupac Shakur, let’s not forget to pay homage to the indelible fashion legacy he leaves behind—a legacy stitched in both rhyme and rubber.

Since Tupac’s untimely departure in ’96, the world has yet to find a replacement. With over 75 million albums sold globally and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction to his name, his cultural resonance shows no signs of waning. As for the kicks? They endure, not just as coveted relics but as enduring monuments to a spirit that was, and remains, truly unbreakable.
