With the 25th anniversary of the New Balance 1000 on the horizon, New Balance is honouring the classic 1999 model with a spectacular comeback. The beloved ’90s dad shoe isn’t just resurfacing with a series of standard in-line colourways but has also showcased some exceptional collaborations. One notable inclusion is this unique collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore, injecting fresh vitality into the timeless silhouette of this iconic New Balance sneaker.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker Design

New Balance’s iconic 1000 sneaker is experiencing a renaissance, with a blend of celebrity and designer collaborations keeping it on everyone’s radar in 2024.

First, Chicago’s Joe Freshgoods reintroduced the celebrated New Balance 1000 for its 25th anniversary with his innovative “When Things Were Pure” pack last month. The latest collaboration, however, veers dramatically from its predecessor. The New York-based label Aime Leon Dore, founded by MADE In USA creative director Teddy Santis, takes a decidedly more sporty approach that perfectly complements the New Balance 1000’s design.

Teddy Santis first teased a sneak peek of this hotly-anticipated Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 1000 collaboration in his spring lookbook, later allowing us a closer look via his Instagram Story.

In terms of aesthetics, the sneaker champions a fresh, summery white colour palette with subtle hints of light grey. This dominant white colour palette accentuates the layered design of the New Balance 1000, while the ‘N’ logos and various overlays are presented in a soft grey tone that makes these areas stand out.

The Aime Leon Dore touch is visible in the brand’s ALD inscriptions on the tongue, sock liner, and lateral forefoot of the upper. Other stylistic gems include the white lacelets stretching down the tongue and a textured, mesh-like pattern on the insoles. The look is completed with robust, dotted laces.

This interpretation of the 90s dad shoes strikes a balance between versatility and style. Given the current preference for chunky sneakers, we wouldn’t be surprised if this design becomes a hot favourite!

Aimé Leon Dore New Balance Release Details

Details about the official launch date for the much-anticipated Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 1000 sneaker remain under wraps, yet from glimpses in the SS24 lookbook, it’s a fair guess that this striking addition to Aimé Leon Dore’s New Balance collection might hit the stores come summer.

An approximate price tag of $170 USD has been forecasted for the sneakers, with both Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance’s distribution channels expected to be stocking them for sale.

Speculation has been swirling around a burst of different colour variations for the Aimé Leon Dore release. As of now, we can’t confirm if these will indeed make the final cut. But do stay tuned for any and all updates.
