Michael Jordan has a wide range of accolades under his belt, which the Jumpman Label continues to highlight through their continuous sneaker releases. Whether it’s creating hybrid models that honour his championship wins or colourways that highlight amazing feats like smashing the basketball backboard during a Nike exhibition game in Trieste, Jordan Brand’s desire to continue honouring the life and career of his royal Airness is unsurprisingly relentless. In fact, coming up soon is a low-top edition of the iconic Air Jordan 1, inspired by Michael Jordan’s Rookie of the Year award in 1985.

A Closer Look At The Design

For those not in the know, the Jumpman Label launched a high-top version of the Air Jordan 1 “Rookie of the Year” sneaker in 2018. The design featured premium materials and detailing inspired by a tan jacket Michael Jordan wore to accept his Rookie Of The Year Award at the NBA’s 1985 award ceremony. However, as is the case with many iconic sneaker releases, a low-top version in the same colour scheme of Sail, Black, Golden Harvest, and Gym Red is soon to be released.

The sneaker has the same white leather base with black side Swooshes and “Golden Harvest” nubuck on the overlays. The iconic colour palette is further enhanced by the eye-catching red “Nike Air” label on the tongue and matching branding on the insoles. While it’s still unclear if the release will include any other nods to Jordan’s Rookie Of The Year achievement, it does look like this pair will be an almost perfect replica of the original high-top version. But with that said, do we really need low-top versions of every classic colourway out there, or is it time for some innovation in the Jordan Brand camp? Although I like this sneaker, I think I’ll choose the latter.

Air Jordan 1 Low “Rookie Of The Year” Release Details

This low-top sneaker celebrating MJ’s “Rookie of the Year” award is expected to be released on the 18th of April 2025. Sneakerheads will be able to grab a pair through Nike.com and select Jordan retailers at a retail price of $140 USD in men’s sizes.

Other sneakers to look out for next spring include the  Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game,” the Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Rookie of the Year”, and the Jordan MVP “Cool Grey”. So, follow us here at Sneaker Fortress to keep tabs on these releases and much more.
