Almost no one from the ’80s and ’90s does not have at least one great memory linked to an old-school gaming system. Whether it was the Sega Genesis with its famous Sonic the Hedgehog titles or a handheld Game Boy with the popular Tetris, these systems and their gaming libraries have a special place in the hearts and minds of many. However, these Air Jordan “Super 4” sneakers by Clément Petit are a homage to the beloved Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and its unforgettable gaming catalogue.
A Closer Look At The Design
It’s no secret that we love a nostalgic sneaker design here at Sneaker Fortress, especially sneakers that throw it back to iconic consoles from our childhood, and these Super Nintendo-inspired shoes definitely hit the mark.
The sneaker’s grey nubuck upper and darker grey accents on the mudguard and sole unit replicate the colour pattern of the SNES console. The shoe also features a black plastic second lacing system that references the cables of the SNES controllers, and the heel and wing tabs are finished in black to further resemble the console’s finer detailing.
Of course, the shoes also have several buttons from the controller and console scattered throughout the upper, such as the D-pad on the sides and the power and reset buttons on the heel tabs.
One small feature that I particularly like is the eyelets on the medial side of the shoes, which are red, green, yellow, and blue. These eyelets are an apparent reference to the coloured buttons on the SNES controller.
Last but not least, is a tribute to two iconic Super Nintendo games, Street Fighter II and Super Mario World, on the insoles. Do you remember the hours spent playing these games on the weekends? Well, these kicks bring back those nostalgic gaming memories in a unique and stylish way.
