After the extraordinary union of Nike and Cartoon Network to create the Powerpuff Girl Nike SB Dunks, a realm of immense potential has been unlocked for a series of cartoon Nike sneaker designs. Naturally, it’s left us all on the edge of our seats, curious to see which other beloved cartoon character will spring to life on a pair of Nike SB Dunk sneakers next. While many sneakerheads might be pinning their hopes on seeing Mojo JoJo SB Dunks as a fitting sequel to the PPG release or dreaming of a design inspired by the charm of Adventure Time, talented sneaker artist Dariyn Enriquez has steered our hopes towards the prospect of a Courage the Cowardly Dog SB Dunk.
We Interrupt this Programme to Bring You… Courage the Cowardly Dog Show
Now, if you grew up in the late nineties and early noughties, chances are your television was regularly tuned to Cartoon Network. Among the motley ensemble of characters who entertained us daily, one particularly stands out: a small, pink, anthropomorphic dog named Courage. However, if you missed out on the offbeat adventures of this unlikely hero by some twist of fate, allow me to fill you in real quick. And if you’re a longtime fan, just enjoy the short throwback.
The Courage the Cowardly Dog Show was an uncanny blend of mild yet memorable horror aimed at kids. The series was set in the remote locale of Nowhere, Kansas, and followed Courage’s brave efforts to shield his owners, the always unsuspecting Muriel and the mean-spirited Eustace Bagge, from a wide range of sinister (and occasionally misunderstood) threats that constantly surrounded their remote home. However, his unique mixed-media art and apparent references to classic horror films lodged Courage permanently in our psyche.
I must admit, a few of those episodes, like “The Demon in the Mattress” and “Freaky Fred,” have remained a little too vivid in my memory. But, as unsettling as some of the content might have been, it was impossible to look away or resist the temptation to tune in again. This very attribute makes us believe Courage is an ideal muse for a Halloween-themed Nike SB Dunk—well, that and this killer cartoon Nike sneaker concept by Enriquez, of course.
The Cartoon Nike Sneaker Design
There is no doubt that you’d immediately associate these cartoon Nike sneakers with Courage, even in the absence of an overt image of the endearing character plastered anywhere on the upper. This subtlety is a key characteristic of what makes these kicks so appealing.
The base of this design features a fuzzy pink material, possibly hairy suede, scattered with dark spots that replicate the distinct pattern found on Courage.

From there, the incorporation of a blend of brown and black colours on the shoe’s heel tab perfectly emulates Courage’s nose, while the hairy black suede Swooshes gracing the sides bear an uncanny resemblance to his ears. Not to miss the yellow inner lining, reminiscent of his, uhm, not-so-pearly whites.
To seal the look, we have the classic combo of a crisp white midsole and a dark black rubber outsole for the perfect finishing touch. If this sneaker design doesn’t make you feel nostalgic for the beloved cartoon character, then I don’t know what will.

Of course, that doesn’t mean we aren’t hoping that Nike sees Enriquez’s immense talent and chooses to team up with him to bring these Courage the Cowardly Dog kicks to the masses.
