If there’s one thing that’s become more and more apparent to us over the years, it’s that sneakerheads love a good Joker-themed sneaker. And if there’s anyone who knows how to deliver on said theme, it’s Sean Fontenot of @colormefresh. Check out his “The Joker” Air Jordan 1s below.

The Joker has been one of the most beloved and iconic DC villains since his chaotic run started way back in 1940. Of course, being around for over eight decades means he’s seen a few changes in appearance and personality over the years. Fontenot’s custom AJ 1 Pollen pays tribute to several of these iterations, including versions from the animated series, comic books, and Heath Ledger’s live-action version.

For one, the shoe’s overall colour scheme takes cues from the comic book version of the menacing prankster. The white base is reminiscent of his signature face paint, while the purple and green hues represent his signature attire.
The design also incorporates other iconic elements from the comic books, including a reference to Arkham Asylum on the right toe box and Joker’s inmate number, #0801, on the left shoe.
Fontenot also dressed up his custom design with playful elements (like a balloon swoosh, balloon characters, and acid flower lace locks) that nod to the Joker’s mischievous nature in the animated series.

Then there’s the gritty, dark elements and laughter text meant to capture some of the unsettling aura of Ledger’s iconic live-action performance.

All in all, these design elements do a good job of capturing the bold, daring, and deranged spirit of one of the most iconic DC villains. It’s also a fun way to explore how the character has evolved and shifted across different media over the years.

If you are interested in grabbing a pair of Joker sneakers, or maybe you even prefer to dream up a custom design of your own, be sure to check out Fontenot’s work @colormefresh and take advantage of the opportunity to commission a unique pair.
