We’ve witnessed a wave of unique interpretations of the iconic Union x Air Jordan 1 High design since news broke that the two were working on yet another collaborative project for 2025. This surge of creativity has given sneakerheads plenty of original takes to keep them anticipating the official release, from low-top iterations to specially designed colourways. Inevitably, though, some pairs, like these hand-carved leather Union x Air Jordan 1 High sneakers by John Trottier (@johnnyskicks_) and Yuang Louis (@louis_yuang), will surpass our wildest expectations and leave us wishing for a wider release.
A Closer Look At The Sneaker
This custom pair uses a simple black-and-white colour scheme, with black covering the majority of the shoe and white wrapping the collar. However, the hand-carved details are where this pair truly shines.
Ornate swirling patterns are carved into the leather of the toe cap, quarter panels, heel, and ankle flap, while the toe box features a design that resembles the Seigaiha wave, a Japanese wave pattern.
Lastly, a blacked-out sole unit and Swoosh complement the overall design, as do a set of two-toned laces. It’s safe to say that by expertly striking a balance between elaborate craftsmanship and elegant simplicity; this pair does an outstanding job of distinguishing itself from all other tributes to the Union LA collaboration—or at least the ones we have seen thus far.
