Michael Jackson has long been recognised as a style icon for his bold fashion choices and unmistakable flair. Yet even among his many unforgettable looks, the red and gold Military-style jacket he wore at the 1984 American Music Awards truly stands out. In fact, this wasn’t just any jacket; it was bold, richly detailed, and to make it more special, it was worn on the night he clinched eight wins in one evening – truly a night to remember for this musical legend. To commemorate 40 years since that historic night, we thought we’d honour one of Michael Jackson’s most unforgettable fashion moments with this Air Jordan 1 “Royal Red/Gold” concept.
A Closer Look At The Sneaker
Inspired by Michael’s bold look, this Air Jordan 1 concept boasts a “Royal Red” leather base, a colour reminiscent of the vibrant red of MJ’s jacket, complemented by a tonal Swoosh. The toe, eyestays, and wings insignia are then accented in metallic gold, lending a regal feel to the design, just like the gold accents that embellished his look.
From there, the Jumpman logo on the tongue is highlighted in turquoise, reminiscent of the beautiful gems that adorned the sash of MJ’s military-style jacket.
Completing the look, the midsole has a subtle gold touch to complement the upper accents, with a red trim that matches the rubber outsole. The result? A beautiful sneaker that honours the King of Pop.
Is The Michael Jackson x Air Jordan 1 “Royal Red/Gold” Available For Purchase?
Sadly, this stylish MJ tribute exists purely as a concept. However, there’s always the possibility of a collaboration between the two Michaels (Jackson and Jordan) becoming a reality, given their past team-ups. Remember the iconic Jam video?
