We can always count on the NBA All-Star weekend to give us a look at the freshest and finest sneakers. And this year’s event treated us to a rare glimpse of NBA superstar LeBron James’ player exclusive Nike LeBron 22 “Captain Planet” sneakers.
A Closer Look At The Sneakers
Although James did not get a chance to show off these special edition sneakers on court due to an ongoing bout of foot and ankle discomfort, we could still get a better look at the design through videos posted on @nbakicks and kevinhart4real Instagram pages.
The aesthetic of the popular 90s cartoon character, Captain Planet, is perfectly mirrored in the sneaker’s vivid colour scheme. The bulk of the Nike LeBron 22 is coloured in tones of blue, red, and black to mimic the character’s complexion and attire, but there are also sporadic yellow and green highlights to represent his hair and globe logo.
These sneakers certainly have a similar feel to LeBron’s previous 2009 Stewie Griffin design, which makes them feel like a playful continuation of the cartoon theme of his PEs.
Nike Lebron 22 “Captain Planet” PE Release Details
Unfortunately, this “Captain Planet” colourway will not be released to the public. However, as with LeBron’s previous ‘Fruity Pebbles’ and ‘Beast’ PEs, which were eventually released to a wider audience, we may see a similar public release of the “Captain Planet” design sometime in the distant future.
Until then, keep a lookout for more cartoon-inspired releases from Nike, as well as their impending Donkey Kong-themed Air Max 1. And remember to follow Sneaker Fortress for more sneaker drops and news.
