Back in February, rapper Yeat was seen wearing a futuristic Nike Air Max sneaker that sneakerheads had never seen before. Since then, fans have been waiting to get a better look at the sci-fi-looking shoe. Now, Nike has finally pulled back the curtain and revealed the Air Liquid Max, a super futuristic neon-green sneaker that looks like it was born in a video game.
Nike Pushes The Air Max Legacy In A New Direction

Nike has been experimenting with the Air Max and its cushioning system since the first Air Max 1 was released in 1987.
The Liquid Max takes what worked on the Air VaporMax from 2017 and the Air Max DN8 from 2025 and ups it 100x.
The Nike Air Liquid Max Introduces Point-Loaded Air Technology

Instead of a bulky midsole packed with foam, the Liquid Max uses what Nike calls point-loaded Air. The cushioning sits only where your foot actually needs it.
Like with the Mind 001, the goal was to create a shoe that gets closer to the feeling of walking on air without stacking layers of material.
Nike’s Andy Caine Explains The Vision Behind The Air Liquid Max

Andy Caine, VP and creative director of Nike Sportswear, summed it up in the official announcement. “Air Max is as much about iterating and innovating as it is about consistently creating the future of Nike sportswear. The Air Liquid Max is a testament to Nike design excellence and tenacity — and a reminder that when we enhance and improve the Air experience, we also get to inspire Nike designers to deliver something entirely new.”
A Three-Layer Printed Upper Creates A Unique Texture

Nike’s design team also mention that instead of standard mesh or knit construction, the Liquid Max uses a three-layer textured printing method. So it’s unique in that regard too.
Nike Designer Marya Chan Breaks Down The Upper Design

Marya Chan, lead material designer for the project, explained the trick behind it. “From far away, the upper looks very unified. But as you get closer, you see the three layers of printing at various heights, adding a lot of tactility that’s surprising to the touch.”
The Poison Dart Frog Inspired The Air Liquid Max Design

For inspiration while designing the Air Liquid Max, designers looked to the poison dart frog, one of the smallest amphibians on Earth and also one of the most dangerous. Its bright skin acts as a warning sign to predators, which made it a fitting reference for a sneaker built to stand out.
Nike’s Bold Green Launch Colorway Takes Center Stage

The launch colourway has all the colors of that frog: Black, Chrome, Green Apple, Volt, Radiant Green and Clear. Bright green tones dominate the upper, paired with a chrome Swoosh and a translucent outsole that gives the shoe a glossy, almost liquid finish.
“For the poison dart frog, color is confidence and boldness is protection. We built the Nike Air Liquid Max in this image, as a silhouette that feels a little dangerous, a little mysterious — a complete break from the past, built for today’s generation,” said Mike McCoy, the lead color designer.
Nike Designers Blend Science And Style In The Liquid Max

Nike senior director of speed footwear product design TaeYong Lee sees the model as a mix of engineering and visual storytelling. “The Nike Air Liquid Max connects science to art, creating a kind of irreverence and telling an amazing story of function and aesthetics,” he said.
Nike Air Liquid Max Release Date, Price And Fragment Collaboration

The sneaker officially releases on March 26, 2026, lining up with Air Max Day. Expect it to land on Nike’s SNKRS app and select Nike Sportswear retailers with a retail price of $230. The launch pair carries the style code IQ7634-001.
