Nike has been going wild with Air Force 1 makeovers in 2025, and the latest pair feels like it was pulled straight out of a scrapyard or maybe the set of Mad Max. Officially named the Nike Air Force 1 ’07 LV8 “Metalwork,” this industrial-looking sneaker drops September 2 for $130 on SNKRS and at select Nike Sportswear retailers.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen some unusual takes on the ’82 classic. There was that strange housefly-inspired pair, a Leaf Camo version that looked like it crawled out of a forest floor, and even corduroy AF1s made for cooler weather. But this one? It looks forged in fire and brimstone.
The “Metalwork” colorway, listed as Medium Ash/Anthracite/Black, has a distressed, scorched finish that makes the leather appear cracked and worn. The outsole doesn’t escape the punishment either, with weathered white stains splattered across the sole. If you’ve ever wondered what a sneaker would look like after surviving a nuclear blast, this is probably it.

Nike’s official SNKRS description of the Air Force 1 ’07 LV8 Metalwork leans into that heavy-duty vibe:
“Fresh out the forge, these AF1s bring the heavy-metal heat. The riveted tongue label, the jagged, chunky Swoosh, the distressed and subtly elevated platform—you got a shoe that looks like it’s been through it all and is ready for whatever comes next.”
That jagged Swoosh is easily the highlight. It looks detachable, held down with screws and rivets like some makeshift armor. The tongue tag even carries golden rivets to sell the “metal shop” aesthetic. Add in thick rope laces and you’ve got a design that feels more like protective gear than everyday streetwear.

This isn’t Nike’s first time experimenting with “industrial survival mode” sneakers. Over the past few years, we’ve seen carabiner-style Swooshes, molten steel-inspired panels, and even a pony hair and faux reptile version of the black Air Force 1. The difference here is that Nike is leaning fully into the pre-aged, beat-down trend that’s been everywhere in the 2020s.
And while some sneakerheads might prefer their kicks box-fresh, pairs like the “Metalwork” make a strong case for pre-worn looks. The cracked ash leather, oxidized stains, and chunky detailing give this AF1 a story before you even wear it. You’re not breaking them in. They already look like they’ve survived something.
