Dariyn Enriquez (@dope_don_designs) has created yet another Batman-inspired sneaker that we are “seriously” into. This time, the sneaker artist brings chaos to the classic Nike Dunk Low silhouette with a design inspired by Heath Ledger’s gritty portrayal of the Joker.
Joker is hands down the most iconic foe of The Caped Crusader, and as such, has seen plenty of action in different adaptations of the Batman story. But there has certainly been no live-action take on the villain as sinister and psychopathic as Heath Ledger’s portrayal in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Ledger’s take on the sadistic jester pushed the boundaries of what a comic book villain could be. And his unhinged performance was perfectly matched by the wardrobe and makeup chosen for his version of the character. The messy dark eye makeup and smeared lipstick, as well as his three-piece suit, have become just as much a part of the character’s legacy as Ledger’s performance itself.
So, it’s absolutely no surprise that we keep seeing the iconic look transcend the realm of film and infiltrate the world of sneaker design. As is the case with this Joker x Nike Dunk Low design by @dope_don_designs.
These kicks are dressed up in a purple leather upper akin to the colour of the Joker’s coat with vibrant green accents on the toe box, tongue and inner lining that nod to his wavy green locks. The sneaker also features a green Swoosh on the medial side and a reddish-orange hue on the lateral side that represents his waistcoat and the lining of his jacket.

Yet the clearest references to Ledger’s legendary portrayal of the Joker are displayed through the “Why so serious” text written in creepy orange on the tongue and the blue hexagonal pattern of his shirt used on the collar. Finally, the midsole also takes a page from Joker lore with the Clown Prince’s iconic “haha” text featured as a repetitive pattern on the midsole.
If you are “serious” about adding these kicks to your sneaker collection, you can find out more information on how to commission a pair through Enriquez’s Instagram bio.
