This year marks three and a half decades since the first Nike Air Max 90 was released in 1990. To commemorate this milestone, fans of the classic Tinker Hatfield design will have access to a number of enticing colourways and collaborations all throughout 2025, including a sleek “Black/Buff Gold” edition that has been likened to everyone’s favourite DC vigilante, Batman.
A Closer Look At The Design
If we’re being completely honest, it doesn’t take much to associate a sleek black sneaker with the Dark Knight these days. However, we can understand why this specific Air Max 90 has been compared to the Caped Crusader’s superhero suit, more specifically, his costume from the ’80s. The use of black ripstop materials at the base, along with the subtle gold highlights on the ankle insignia, tongue tag, insoles, heel logo, and miniature Swooshes, do somewhat resemble the iconic elements of Batman’s suit. Still, without any official Batman branding, these are essentially just a pair of black and gold sneakers—albeit a really sleek and stylish pair.
Of course, if you wanted to add your own personal Batman-inspired touches, these would be the perfect canvas to customise with some DIY Batman logos or designs. However, this colourway is still pretty impressive without referencing Gotham’s Dark Knight.
