Do you remember Rocket Power? This highly underrated animated series had us all wanting to try out some extreme sports in the late 90s and early 2000s. I mean, who didn’t want to be a part of the cool group of friends who were masters of literally everything from skateboarding to surfing and even rollerblading? Well, while we may never be able to fully live out our Rocket Power dreams, @dope_don_designs has given this group of adventurous kids their own What the Dunk Low sneaker that allows us to feel at least a little closer to the action. Introducing the Rocket Power Nike Dunks.
There is no doubt this What the “Rocket Power” Dunk Low will have you reminiscing on the fun-filled adventures of Otto, Reggie, Twister, and Sam as they skated, surfed, and snowboarded their way through Ocean Shores. Not only does this sneaker pay homage to the rad kids of the iconic Nick show, but it also incorporates aesthetics inspired by Raymundo Rocket (the cool and laid-back father of Reggie and Otto) and Tito Makani (the wise and eccentric grillman and co-owner of the Shore Shack).
The “Rocket Power” Dunk Low features a split sneaker concept where the right foot showcases vibrant colours and designs inspired by Otto, Reggie, and Raymundo. In contrast, the left foot has an eye-catching aesthetic reminiscent of Twister, Sam, and Tito Makani.
Let’s start with the right foot. This side showcases a burst of contrasting bold colours that perfectly capture the adventurous spirit of the daring Rocket trio. The sneaker’s toe box takes on the pale yellow of Otto’s signature t-shirt, while the toe tip is a deep red reminiscent of his pants. The mid-panel, Swoosh, and outsole take on hues inspired by Raymundo’s top, hat, and pants, using vibrant blues and greens to capture his laidback look. Finally, the back of the sneaker is all Reggie, with everything from her hair and skin tone right down to her pants reflected in the patterns and colours used.
Moving on to the left foot, we have a slightly different aesthetic inspired by Twister, Sam, and the eccentric Tito. The sneakers’ design on this side focuses on softer tones and tropical elements to capture the essence of these three beloved characters. The toe box showcases a soft blue inspired by Twister’s loose-fitting tank, while the green tip of the shoe represents his cargo shorts. The mid-panel and sole perfectly reflect Tito with his palm print shirt and striped pants, while the entire back of the shoe and the Swoosh feature Sam’s signature colours and the large letter N from his shirt.
Tying these two sneakers together is the iconic Shore Shack logo proudly displayed on the tongue of each shoe. This pays homage to the beachside hangout/work spot, where this gang spends countless hours chilling, working, and having fun. These sneakers are a great tribute to the carefree and laid-back lifestyle the gang embodies, making us want to get our hands on a pair even more.
