A flood of excitement surrounds the forthcoming 2023 film Wonka, a chronicle of Willy Wonka’s early journey to becoming the eccentric sweetmaker we adore, starring Golden Globe Award winner Timothée Chalamet. Lest we forget, in 2005, Nike Skateboarding released a Nike SB Dunk Low Pro Oompa Loompa, wonderfully imitating Wonka’s tiny little helpers. The unique features included brown leather accents, stark white highlights, and a zesty orange twist that perfectly embodied the Oompa Loompa’s in sneaker form.
Despite the prior release, the Wonka “Nike Dunk Low” stands out as the first Nike creation to have an official chord with a Willy Wonka movie and the first crafted with direct input from a cast member. Yes, you read right! Timothée Chalamet himself had a hand in the design of this fun Wonka-themed creation.

In the quest to capture the eccentric charm of the beloved character, Chalamet and Nike have drawn on Wonka’s trademark jacket for inspiration. This brilliant design features a white canvas upper covered in colourful burgundy, lavender, and blue splashes. This unique design running through the upper mirrors the pattern that can be found on the inside lining of Wonka’s cloak.
Subtle yet captivating details such as the rich burgundy velvet tongue and laces then mirror the outward appearance of Wonka’s coat. This hue extends to the sneaker’s inner lining, heel tab, and Profile Swooshes, proving no detail is too small. The Swooshes are further adorned with intricate embroidery in white, orange, and gold hues, offering a beautiful nod to the detailed stitching on Wonka’s lapels.

Accompanying the plush burgundy shade on the heel tab, a white cloud plays host to a yellow lightning bolt embroidered onto it. This delightful touch is a tasteful homage to Wonka’s selection of delectable sweet treats in the new movie.
Additional design elements include the brown leather tags on the tongue, adorned with the legendary Wonka “W” logo, elegantly embossed in gold. The design is tied together with a crisp, white midsole and a brown rubber outsole that bears a compelling resemblance to a delicious bar of chocolate.
