Air Jordan 1 Low SE “Polaroid” Is The Frozone Sneaker Fans Wanted

The latest Air Jordan 1 has a "Polaroid" design, commemorating the image of MJ soaring through the air in his first signature shoe.

One of the most important components of brand identity has always been its logo. The more distinctive and identifiable a logo is, the more it can contribute to a brand’s success and appeal to consumers. The iconic Jordan Jumpman is a fitting representation of this. Almost four decades later, it remains one of the most widely recognisable logos in the sneaker industry. Returning to the image that started it all—Michael Jordan soaring through the air in his first signature shoe—the latest women’s exclusive Air Jordan 1 features a “Polaroid” design to commemorate the historic moment.

A Closer Look At The Design

This new release has creatively reimagined the original “Bred” colourway that Michael Jordan wore for his Jumpman photo shoot in 1985. With its buttery pale grey leather upper and contrasting cyan accents on the toe box, laces, Swooshes, and heel, the sneaker has an aesthetic that recalls the inverted colour scheme of the Negative Polaroid technique used in the brand’s Jumpman photo shoot. This is set against a translucent outsole and dark grey midsole that further accentuates the theme.

However, the Polaroid pictures of Michael Jordan’s famous jump featured on the insoles are the clearest reference to the aforementioned photo shoot. While the right shoe features the images as showcased across numerous billboards and adverts, the left shoe displays the undeveloped, unprocessed picture. Yet I can’t help but feel these images would have looked much better placed on the underside of the translucent outsoles. It’s a lost opportunity but still a cool design concept overall.
