Since the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, an array of sneakers and concepts have emerged, celebrating various heroes and villains from the expansive webslinging multiverse. While many of us may hold a special affinity for a Miles Morales-inspired design, it’s impossible to ignore the allure of the Spider-Man 2099 x Nike Air Jordan 1 concept by designer Y. Raikchakha Reang, known on Instagram as @raichu.copper. This concept truly deserves to be brought to life.

Why We Need a Spider-Man 2099 Sneaker

Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099 and masterfully voiced by Oscar Isaac, has been a pivotal character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. But let’s not forget his intriguing character first caught our attention in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

For those who may not be familiar, Spider-Man 2099 is a futuristic version of the original Spider-Man, hailing from the year 2099. Miguel leads the Spider Society, a coalition of Spider-people from various dimensions dedicated to safeguarding the multiverse and maintaining its balance.

This mission inevitably puts him at odds with the main Spider-Man, Miles Morales, who obtained his spider powers from a mutated spider originating from another universe—a universe that now lacks its own Spider-Man.

Despite his antagonistic role, there’s no denying that Spider-Man 2099 is an exceptionally cool character, both in design and abilities. His cutting-edge gadgets and distinctive powers set him apart from the rest of the arachnids in the Spider-verse. Plus, his digital suit is particularly noteworthy, featuring a retractable cape that doubles as wings for gliding and arm blades that serve as formidable weapons.

As Miguel continues to challenge Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, we believe it’s the perfect moment for Nike and Jordan Brand to introduce a hero and villain pack. A Spider-Man 2099 x Nike Air Jordan 1 would be an exceptional choice, seamlessly blending Miguel’s unique flair with the iconic Air Jordan design.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker Design

These kicks are everything enthusiasts would expect from the futuristic and edgy Spider-Man 2099 character. The design boasts a sleek black base, which would need to be crafted from glossy patent leather to give it a high-tech vibe.

Bright red accents bring life to the toe box, ankle flap, and side Swooshes, adorned with the suit’s distinct tech markings.

Naturally, one of the standout features of this design is the blades extending from the sole and trailing behind the shoe. These blades add a dynamic touch to the design, perfectly representing the futuristic and cutting-edge aesthetic of Spider-Man 2099.

Finally, to complete the look, a red midsole paired with a matching rubber outsole echoes the patterns on the upper to create a cohesive digital/futuristic appearance. These are definitely a pair any fan of O’Hara would be thrilled to have in their collection.

Can You Buy These Sneakers?

Unfortunately, the Spider-Man 2099 x Nike Air Jordan 1 is just a concept at this time and is not available for purchase. However, with the Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse movie on the horizon, we hope to see some incredible Nike and Jordan sneakers inspired by the film.

The animated flick was initially slated for a March 29, 2024, release but was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Nevertheless, with Spider-Man 2099 poised to play a pivotal role as an antagonist to Morales and his allies, we’re optimistic about potential sneaker collaborations when the film finally swings into cinemas worldwide.

While we await official news, why not check out other designs inspired by the celebrated animation? And don’t forget to follow us here at Sneaker Fortress for the latest customs and concepts.
