Since he emerged as a rising star in the NBA, 22-year-old Anthony Edwards has been making massive statements on the court about his desire to be one of the greats. His signature shoe, the AE 1, has been hugely successful for adidas. Now, a low-top is on its way to fans.
Anthony Edwards’ Rise To Stardom
Anthony Edwards’ star has steadily risen in the few years since he was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. At the time of writing this, the NBA Playoffs are underway, and Ant-Man’s Minnesota Timberwolves have already made it clear that they aren’t playing around. In Game 1 of their series against the Phoenix Suns, Ant dropped 33, and many are touting them as favourites to win and make a deep run.
There’s also the little matter of his gorgeous signature shoes, which have been making waves in the sneaker industry since they launched in late 2023 under the adidas banner. Whether it’s Anthony Edwards’ colourful, smooth personality that’s been behind this or just the adidas marketing machinery pulling strings, what we know is that the hype behind this shoe has also included him chirping all-time great Kevin Durant, with Ant saying he’d love to see KD rock a pair of AE1’s in-game. Spicy.
Let’s talk about this beautiful sneaker and the new design that’s on its way.
The AE 1
The very first AE 1 colourway to launch was called ‘With Love’, a fitting name for a signature shoe worn by a player who has shown nothing but love in his approach to basketball. If NBA analysts are already making Michael Jordan comparisons, we should sit up and take notice.
Adding to the excitement, Ant and the team at adidas teased a new colourway on their socials, and it will be the first low edition of the AE 1. Edwards wore a pair of the (hopefully) soon-to-be-released black and pink kicks in Game 1 of the playoffs, where he went on to torch Kevin Durant and company.
The Adidas AE 1 Low Design
In terms of the overall design of the sneaker, the adidas AE 1 has a black knitted upper for breathability and a comfortable fit. A TPU support cage featuring a unique honeycomb perforation pattern reinforces the upper for added stability on the court. Signature details include Anthony Edwards’ initials on the woven tongue tag and the adidas three-stripe logo on the heel. The midsole combines Boost and Lightstrike cushioning technologies, which help deliver a lightweight feel with excellent energy return.
Coming to the low-top silhouette, the social media tease shows that the shoe features a two-tone colourway. Pink side panels contrast the black mesh on the tongue and eyelets. The heel counter incorporates a contrasting yellow three-stripe logo, while the outsole mirrors the vibrant pink hue.
The release date and pricing details have yet to be made available, but we’ll keep track of that and let you know as soon as we have more information. Meanwhile, if you want to find out more about the ‘With Love’ colourway, which was the first to be released in the AE 1 line, read this article.
