The collaboration between Adidas and the Minnesota Timberwolves rising star, Anthony Edwards, aka ‘Ant-Man’, has created quite the chatter in anticipation of the launch of his first signature sneaker. The Adidas AE 1 “With Love” is certainly a release that fans shouldn’t miss this upcoming festive season.

The shoe’s design hasn’t been the sole cause for conversation, though. The promo video for the launch, where Edwards pokes fun at the first signature designs from players of competing brands like Puma, Nike, and Jordan Brand, has indeed grabbed plenty of attention, not to mention the fact that the savage tweet from Adidas targeting Kevin Durant has further stirred the pot in this sneaker saga.

AE 1 "With Love"

However, despite these side stories, one thing remains clear – the Adidas AE 1 “With Love” has unquestionably positioned itself as a highlight in this year’s sneaker releases.

The AE 1 “With Love” sneaker was initially showcased to the world in September 2023. This unveiling was part of a heartwarming event held in Oakland City – the Atlanta neighbourhood that adds charm to the narrative since it’s where Edwards spent his formative years. Since then, Edwards has been scoring style points on and off the court, displaying the shoe’s unique blend of aesthetics and performance. So, as we inch closer to the highly anticipated official release date, let’s pause and take the time to truly admire the fantastic design features of this remarkable sneaker.

The “With Love” colourway of the Adidas AE 1 flawlessly merges the vibrant hues of “Acid Orange”, “Core Black”, and “Acid Red”. Not only does this tasteful blend of colours provide a delightful visual feast, but it also carries significant sentimental value for Edwards. These chosen colours, namely Peach and Pink, which are the favourites of Edward’s mother and grandmother, are a subtle homage to these influential women in his life.

The sneakers boast a textile upper in a classic “Core Black” shade, complemented beautifully by a shiny, black nylon tongue bearing Edward’s initials in a lovely peachy hue. These sneakers come with standard black laces, harmonising with the upper’s colour palette. However, the sneakers also come with a set of peach laces, providing a delightful pop of contrast when swapped in.

The design also boasts a chunky black heel, intricately adorned with a delicate pattern in diverse shades of black. The iconic Adidas three stripes logo is featured prominently on this design in a striking shade of “Acid Red.”

However, what truly sets this basketball sneaker apart is its distinctive “Acid Orange” TPU overlay. This striking feature boasts large aerated cutouts running along the sides of the shoe, from the toe, almost reaching the heel. Beneath this layer, a coordinating knit material is dotted with tinier ventilation holes, offering breathability and comfort during game time.

Additional features of the shoe include black insoles that display a print of Anthony Edwards’ face, as well as his initials. Furthermore, a monochromatic peach midsole and rubber outsole complement the overall design.

Don’t be mistaken; the AE1 isn’t just a treat for the eyes; it’s also a marvel in performance. Thanks to a fusion of adidas’ BOOST and Lightstrike midsole technology, wearers are in for superior energy return and unparalleled lightweight comfort during their most dynamic movements. To top it off, a solid rubber outsole offers the essential stability. This means you can take to the court and perform those daring moves towards the hoop without fear of restriction.

With a distinctive and attention-grabbing design and outstanding performance characteristics, the AE1 is positioning itself among the most eagerly awaited basketball sneakers set to launch this festive season. Of course, its remarkable marketing campaign only adds to the anticipation.

You can grab your pair of adidas AE 1 “With Love” sneakers on December 16th via adidas.com and select retailers. The colourway will be available at $120 USD for adult sizes, $100 USD for youth sizes, $80 USD for child’s sizes, and rounding off with $70 USD for the littlest of sneakerheads in infant and toddler sizes.
