In surprising news, former US President Donald Trump arrived at Sneaker Con in Philadelphia over the weekend to launch a new line of gold sneakers, which will retail for a whopping $399.
As reported by the New York Post, the leading Republican figure unveiled his new footwear, which features the in-your-face “Never Surrender high-tops” to an unanticipated crowd, resulting in both boos and cheers from sneakerheads.
Billed as “President Trump’s official sneaker”, the patriotic in-you-face sneaker is bright metallic gold. It is adorned with American flag logos (with stars against a blue background and stripes in a contrasting red) and a giant T on the side. The sole boasts a vibrant red hue that creates a striking contrast with the gold, while the bottom appears to be white, completing the colour palette of the American flag. With its glossy texture, Donald Trump’s gold sneakers are definitely crafted to stand out.

What’s even more surprising was the asking price. Available in limited supply, $399 is definitely not cheap. In comparison, for example, the Jordan 4 Retro Bred Reimagined (a highly sought-after sneaker) sold for $210 (retail) this weekend. Nevertheless, Trump’s gold sneakers sold out in record time and are already appearing on reseller sites for as much as $1500 (nearly four times more).
The collection also presents a low-top variant, available in either the “T-Red” hue or the presidential “POTUS” white, each accented with a golden “45” insignia on the flank. These slip-on models are priced at $199. And they look a lot better, actually.
“I’ve wanted to do this for a long time,” Trump declared before the Sneaker Con crowd. Who knew?
While it’s way too early to tell if Trump’s gold sneakers will become a huge hit, they’re certainly off to a good start. Personally, I can’t see myself copping these. That said, those who are in support of the campaigns, would probably jump at the opportunity to grab these. Whether or not this is merely a political stunt or an actual sneaker business, we’ll have to wait and see.
