Where 2023 witnessed the rise of the infamous Rat slides, the “Toes” slippers are the latest quirky footwear trend to capture social media feeds with their, uhm, unique charm. Though their appearance might be a bit unusual, these eye-catching slippers are undoubtedly becoming a conversation starter.

Who Created the Toes Slippers?

"Toes" Slippers

The ingenious mind behind these distinctive slippers is Alexander Osipov (@canyaon), an emerging designer hailing from Russia. Renowned for transforming ordinary sneakers into striking and unconventional creations, Osipov’s eclectic portfolio ranges from repurposing hockey gloves into futuristic sneakers to conceptualising metallic Balenciaga footwear. Nevertheless, his latest brainchild, the “Toes” slippers, might be his most extraordinary and peculiar design to date.

While the shoe’s aesthetic draws an ever-so-slight parallel to Imran Potato’s “Caveman” slippers from 2021, which happen to mimic the look of very large human feet, Osipov’s “Toes” slippers take this concept to an entirely new realm of curious fascination.

This bold creation has already garnered a remarkable 95,428 likes and 958 comments at the time of writing, as many eagerly seek to get their hands on a pair of these, let’s say, unique slippers.

A Closer Look at the Design

While the shoe’s base would have you mistake them for just a standard pair of slides, the toe area is where things truly get intriguing.

The exaggerated toe opening, complete with sizeable faux toenail detailing masterfully painted in fleshy tones, lends these slippers a touch of whimsy and humour. Plus, every minute element has been meticulously considered, down to the cracks and lines in the nail design, for added realism. I know, who would have thought that the Yeezy Pods could be overshadowed as the most unconventional shoe design of the 2024?

In any case, Osipov’s “Toes” slippers certainly warrant a closer look. The dedication to replicating a human big toe is both impressive and slightly unsettling. From the lifelike skin tone to the incredibly realistic toenail, these slippers are a true masterpiece that straddles the line between fashion and shock value.

Are the “Toes” Slippers for Sale?

As of now, Osipov has yet to announce if these quirky slippers will be available for public purchase. However, judging by the number of people clamouring for a pair in their size (and skin tone) in the comments, it wouldn’t be surprising to see these “Toes” slippers popping up on city streets soon.

Love them or loathe them, Osipov’s “Toes” slippers are undeniably making waves in the footwear world. If you’re among the many eager to get your hands on a pair, consider sending Osipov a direct message on Instagram. This way, you can inquire about his retail plans or even request a custom pair tailored to your size and skin tone.

In the meantime, if you’re simply in search of a regular pair of slides to comfort your feet, take a look at the best Yeezy slides to buy in 2024 or discover more about Nike’s Calm slides.
