Some sneaker designs truly stand out for their unique and captivating aesthetics, and the Nike SB Dunk Low “Civilist” certainly fits the bill. Yet, while we adore the original design, there’s always room for a fresh interpretation of its iconic look on new silhouettes. And that’s exactly the magic Bakashi Studios (@bakashi.the.cobbler) has brought with their custom Off-White x Air Jordan 1 “Civilist” creation.

Remembering the Nike SB Dunk Low “Civilist”

If you still have fond memories of the Nike SB Dunk Low Civilist from August 2020, you are not alone. This was the third time Nike partnered with the Berlin-based skate shop Civilist, following a Dunk High in 2013 and two Janoski releases in 2015.

What truly set this sneaker apart was its extraordinary design. At first glance, the upper appeared entirely black, but it transformed into a vibrant array of colours when exposed to high temperatures. This unique look was actually a homage to the DIY rave culture of the late ’80s. The sneaker reflected the spirit of freedom and expression that comes alive after a hard week of work.

This distinctive feature, morphing from unassuming black to an explosion of multicolours, is what these Off-White x Air Jordan 1 “Civilist” custom sneakers aim to replicate-All while keeping that unmistakable Off-White deconstructed aesthetic intact, of course.

A Closer Look at the Off-White x Air Jordan 1 “Civilist”

This sneaker seamlessly combines the iconic elements from both Off-White and the SB Civilist Dunks, creating an unmistakable and unique design that will undoubtedly catch the eye of any sneaker enthusiast.

The sneaker’s base begins with a white mesh-like fabric, complemented by a brown leather overlay on the midfoot.

The spotlight, however, falls on the thermally sensitive black leather panels that adorn the toe, eye stays, heel, and ankle flaps, along with the deconstructed Swooshes on the sides. When heated, this material transforms into hypnotising shades of blue, red, green, and yellow, injecting an unexpected burst of colour into the otherwise neutral palette.

All of this rests on a classic white midsole and a black rubber outsole combination. But of course, there’s more – the sneaker also features custom insoles to match those of the SB Civilist Dunks and comes with four different lace colours: blue, neon green, black, and white, complete with Off-White’s characteristic “shoelaces” lettering on the tips.

The sneakers are presented in a premium magnetic box, and to top it all off, the final product includes custom tags to perfectly complement the Civilist pair.

How To Have Your Own Custom Pair Made
