While Jordan Brand is known to sit at the loftier end of the price spectrum, their upcoming collection will raise the bar even higher. The newly introduced Air Jordan 1 “Wings” collection boasts of high-end Italian leather reminiscent of the brand’s renowned Dior collaboration from 2020. It will feature three luxury variants of the signature Air Jordan 1 silhouette, including two low-tops and one high-top that offer a minimalist approach when it comes to colour scheme. But before you sneer at the thought of shelling out a sizeable amount for a pair of Jordans (well, even more than usual), let’s look deeper to find out what’s in store with this upcoming range.

Air Jordan 1 Low ’85 “French Blue”

Air Jordan 1 "Wings" sneaker collection

The Air Jordan 1 Low in the “French Blue” colourway blends simplicity with luxury. It flaunts a tasteful colour scheme of “Summit White,” “French Blue,” “Neutral Grey,” and “Sail.” The soft “Sail” colour covers the upper part of these sneakers, which are made of top-notch Italian leather. Highlighting the signature Swoosh logo in a striking “French Blue”, the sneakers then break the monotony. Of course, the imprint beneath the Wings logo on the tongue labels that read “Made in Italy” are there to remind us of the shoe’s superior execution. Finalising its design is a “Sail” midsole and a crisp “White” rubber outsole for a simple but stunning look.

The luxury factor is elevated in this AJ1 variant, showcasing a polished “Summit White,” “Wolf Grey,” and “Phantom” palette. The “Summit White” leather covering the upper reveals raw edges in a contrasting “Sanddrift” colour. There’s also a slight colour shift with the interior lined in a pale “Phantom” shade. Again, the symbolic Wings logo on the tongues has been inscribed with “Made in Italy”, alerting us to the finer details. This elegant design combines a neat “White” midsole and a contrasting rubber outsole for a perfect look.

Translating the same style into a high-top offering is the Air Jordan 1 High ’85. It carries the “Phantom,” “Wolf Grey,” and “Sanddrift” colours, with an all-important addition of “Metallic Gold.” The all-white upper is complemented by exposed “Sandrift” raw edges and neatly finished with a “White” midsole and a darker rubber outsole to mirror its low-top counterpart. For those who aspire for a chic and lavish look, this Air Jordan 1 High ’85 is tailor-made.

Release Details

Based on the images, it is clear that the forthcoming releases have been kept minimalistic in terms of colour blocking and detailing to let the high-grade materials and craftsmanship shine. Going hand in hand with these excellent materials, sneaker lovers can anticipate special Jordan packaging and perhaps a tad more for their money.

Coming to the price, the AJ1 High is predicted to be priced at a steep $975, while the low-tops will cost $875. While we have seen premium collections like the Pinnacle series pricing slightly higher than the standard ($400 USD to be exact), the Wings collection truly sets a new benchmark with its luxury price tags. However, the market’s readiness to shell out such high amounts for the Wings collection still needs to be seen.

Interestingly, it’s worth mentioning that sales from the “Wings” releases go towards Jordan Brand’s youth charity programme – thus, when you make a purchase, you’re also contributing to a worthy cause, adding a silver lining to the hefty price tag.

For those eager to get their hands on these premium Jordan sneakers, the Air Jordan 1 “Wings” sneaker collection will be available in spring 2024 from Nike.com and select Jordan stockists. The collection will be offered in men’s sizes at the prices above. If you are interested, watch this space for more updates about release dates and availability.
