If you’re looking for flashy velvet sneakers in 2024, then the Air Jordan 11 ‘Bred Velvet’ is what you need. This ladies’ exclusive is hitting shelves toward the end of the year, just in time for the holidays. This winter special is a must-have for raising your sneaker game.

The Air Jordan 11 ‘Bred Velvet’ is an intriguing twist on an iconic silhouette. @zsneakerheadz and Sneaker Files teased a sumptuous mock-up of this famous black and red colourway. What sets this Air Jordan 11 apart from its predecessors is the change of the mudguard from patented leather to a delectable full black velvet upper. The silhouette’s signature Cordura nylon upper is replaced with smooth velvet finishes. Another change in the shoe’s trademark feature is from a translucent outsole to a solid opaque rubber bottom.

The Air Jordan 11 is fully packaged in a White midsole, Black uppers and Varsity Red for the outsole and the Jumpman logo. One of the critical elements of the Air Jordan 11 is the patented leather mudguard.

Tinker Hatfield, the shoe designer, noticed that Michael Jordan’s foot rolled over the shoe when he changed direction. Patent leather was added to provide strength and support on the court.

The shoe was innovative for using a carbon fibre shank plate, making the Air Jordan 11 much more durable and light. The use of Cordura nylon was another game changer in its design. The fabric provided elasticity but was breathable and robust while providing plenty of support for the foot.

Michael Jordan debuted the Air Jordan 11 ‘Concord’ in 1995 on May 7 during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Orlando Magic. The Air Jordan 11 was controversial for Jordan as the black and white colourway clashed with the Bulls’ all-black sneakers. Jordan also recently returned to playing professional basketball after retiring in 1993 to play minor-league Baseball with the Chicago White Sox.

Jordan returned to basketball in 1995, with the Air Jordan 11 as his shoe of choice. The patented leather on the uppers was usually reserved for formal footwear. Still, Jordan encouraged Hatfield to include design elements that enable the shoe to be worn outside the court, especially with a suit.

The bold design was eye-catching and immediately caught the attention of viewers and sneakerheads who loved the shoe, and it soon became an instant classic. Although Jordan’s return in Game 1 against the Orlando Magic was subpar, the Air Jordan 11 was the real winner on the day.

Air Jordan 11 ‘Bred Velvet’: A must for the Holidays

Air Jordan 11 Bred Velvet Releasing in 2024

The ‘Bred’ colourway is a fantastic combination on an Air Jordan 11. The black and Varsity red and white make these shoes a delight for the eyes. In contrast to the sleek patented leather of the OG Air Jordan 11 ‘Concord’, the ‘Bred Velvet’ offers a luxurious velvet upper that, while not as breathable as the ‘Concord’, has an exquisite touch and a unique texture. The velvet and ‘Bred’ touches combine for a perfect holiday release, making 2024 potentially one of the best years for sneaker fans.
