Yeezy enthusiasts were eagerly awaiting the YEEZY 700 V4’s release slated for 2023. However, the much-publicised separation between Kanye West and adidas threw the launch of this eagerly awaited model into uncertainty. But let’s not let that dampen our excitement about this futuristic design. Renowned designer Ilija Nikolic (@bru_slee) has given us a glimpse into all this innovative pair could be. But before diving into his imaginative renderings, let’s revisit what could have been one of the most exciting drops in recent memory.
The adidas x Yeezy 700 V4
At the tail end of 2022, sneaker enthusiasts were teased with a sneak peek of the YEEZY 700 V4, which was initially slated for its grand unveiling in 2023.
Although images were few and far between, the leaked silhouette suggests a design that heavily borrows from the 700v3 but comes in a one-piece foam mould reminiscent of the Foam Runners. The design also features a neoprene inner bootie and, notably, no laces.
Given all that has unfolded since then, the likelihood of seeing these kicks debut under the Yeezy banner seems slim. However, adidas has announced its intent to release these designs under a new name, retaining the intellectual property and designs associated with the line. But without Ye’s association, there’s plenty of uncertainty about whether the hype around these sneakers will translate the same way.
Let’s be honest; one sighting of Ye wearing a new pair of shoes can catapult them into instant stardom. Look no further than his own infamous Yeezy Pods, which have once again been restocked on his site, to understand this phenomenon. Kanye’s name has a formidable pull in the market, and while his name alone drives sales, there’s no denying his designs are innovative and boundary-pushing in the fashion world. The Yeezy 700s are a prime illustration of his creativity and impact.
The V4 version is still a pair that fans dream of owning, and designer Ilija Nikolic is clearly one of the fans in question.
A closer look at Ilija Nikolic’s Yeezy 700 V4 design
In his vision of the Yeezy 700 V4, Nikolic adheres closely to the futuristic and unconventional aesthetics typical of the Yeezy brand. The exaggerated sole and earthy colour palette harmonise perfectly with Ye’s signature style, ensuring it feels authentically Yeezy.
Interestingly, his V4 includes laces and distinctive tabs, adding a unique twist to the overall design. A matching pull tab at the heel then adds to the shoe’s cohesive feel. The design also boasts a neoprene inner bootie with cut-outs contributing to the shoe’s edgy and futuristic design.
Nikolić’s admiration for sci-fi is crystal clear in this stunning design, drawing aesthetic cues from elements like LED digital watches, the interior of the Citroën Karin concept car, and, of course, the organic, futuristic design of the Yeezy 700 V3. It’s certainly a style that would seamlessly blend into the current adidas x Yeezy collection.
Are These Sneakers Available for Purchase?
Unfortunately, the Yeezy 700 V4 is currently just a concept crafted by Ilija Nikolic and is unavailable for purchase. However, with Kanye West launching his own label and unveiling new designs, we hope to see something akin to Nikolic’s vision in the future.
