Since the heartbreaking passing of Kobe Bryant in 2020, his legacy continues to live on through his family, his “Mamba Mentality” programme and the remarkable sneakers released in his honour. While many of these releases have been through the Nike brand, adidas has also jumped on the bandwagon by reintroducing some of the memorable models he sported during his time with the brand. Now, one of the more contentious pairs from the adidas Kobe lineup is set to return in 2025. Yes, we’re talking about the adidas Kobe 2 (Crazy 2).

History of the Kobe 2 (Crazy 2)

Before Kobe became synonymous with Nike Basketball, he began his professional career as an adidas athlete. The NBA legend signed with adidas as a rookie and maintained that partnership until 2002.

Interestingly, it’s believed that one of the main reasons for his departure from adidas was his dissatisfaction with the design of the Kobe 2—a model that adidas now plans to re-release next year, just rebranded as the Crazy 2s.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker

The Kobe 2 (or Crazy 2s) showcases a futuristic, blocky silhouette reminiscent of the recently re-released Crazy 1s but with an even more angular and certainly more divisive design. Yet despite its unconventional, almost toaster-like appearance, many fans are still excited for the return of this retro basketball shoe.

Among the most anticipated colourways is the “USA” design, famously worn by a young LeBron James back in 2002. However, for now, it’s the white-and-yellow “All-Star” version, seen on Kobe’s feet in the 2002 NBA All-Star Game, that will be hitting the market first.

adidas Kobe 2 (Crazy 2) Release Details

Expect the “All-Star” variant to launch in February 2025, coinciding with the NBA All-Star Weekend. You’ll find the Lakers-inspired pair available through adidas and select retailers, priced at $160 USD. Following this release, anticipate a year filled with more colourways of this, uhm, unique shoe.
