This year, there will be no LeBron James at the NBA All-Star Game — but that doesn’t mean he isn’t showcasing some seriously sharp sneakers. The ankle injury that’s had him on the sidelines for the past few games has kept him from participating in All-Star festivities, but it hasn’t stopped him from taking to Instagram to give fans a glimpse of what he might’ve worn during the game. Had he been healthy and able to play, he would’ve rocked a special pair of rainbow-hued Nike LeBron 22 sneakers that, he revealed in a story on Monday, are inspired by Captain Planet, his favorite cartoon from childhood.
The LeBron 22 “Captain Planet” has a bright, bold color palette of blue, green, and red that serves as a direct homage to the iconic outfit worn by the character who taught the public about pollution, the thinning ozone layer, and taking care of the planet.
Captain Planet may not have been popular in pop culture for more than 30 years, but a revitalization in Captain Planet’s character is taking place. Dynamite Entertainment is overhauling Captain Planet into a new comic book series. So, whether you like it or not, LeBron’s Captain Planet kicks could very well appear alongside the eco-hero in this new storytelling medium.

While it seems improbable that these sneakers will ever become available (unless Nike chooses to surprise everyone with a new drop), there’s a decent chance that we’ll spot them on LeBron’s feet in a game before this season wraps up.
Although LeBron’s sneaker game never lacks for surprises, the recent “Captain Planet” LeBron 22 isn’t the only sneaker release that has fans talking. He also teased a pair of his “Black Label” LeBron 22s, though the theme of that sneaker remains under wraps.
One thing that’s certain is that LeBron is flooding his signature line with nostalgia, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
