As some may know, 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation console’s release. And in a surprising yet exciting turn of events, the PlayStation has joined forces with PUMA to create a fresh sneaker collection that echoes the brand’s remarkable history. Although it’s only one of numerous remarkable collaborations we’re anticipating from the gaming giant this year, this collaboration is an ideal tribute to the consoles seismic impact on gaming and pop culture.

This partnership brings four distinctive sneaker designs to life – a duo of Puma Suede sneaker variants in sleek grey and timeless black and a pair of RS-X models wearing much the same colours. Each sneaker is a love letter to the PlayStation console, featuring the iconic controller symbols – the triangle, circle, X, and square – woven seamlessly into the design. So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at the stylish details of these designs.

PlayStation x PUMA Collection

PlayStation x Puma Suede “Grey”

Much like other releases from this noteworthy collection, the Puma Suede “Grey” embodies the familiar aesthetics of the PlayStation console. Unmistakable controller buttons – the triangle, circle, X, and square – are subtly debossed into the grey suede fabric, no doubt a delightful homage to many hours spent immersed in gameplay.

In a further nod to the console’s design, the shoe’s inner lining and quarter panel overlays are tinged in a deep black.

Additional features that will surely bring a smile to any PlayStation stalwart include the classic PlayStation logo on the shoe’s tongue and a unique hangtag embellished with Puma and PlayStation logos.

Finalising the look is a stylish semi-translucent sole with a gradient effect transitioning from a vibrant blue to sleek grey. Encased within the sole, you’ll find the clever addition of the PlayStation’s controller buttons symbol, beautifully displayed beneath.

Much like its counterpart, the PlayStation x Puma Suede “Black” envelops itself in black and grey shades. However, rather than the dominance of grey, this model opts for a mainly black design, highlighted with touches of grey.

The PlayStation emblem adorns the tongue of the sneaker, and each shoe comes with a hangtag as part of the release.

A translucent sole adds the final touch to this model. This integral component showcases a captivating transition from black to blue, beneath which the symbols of PlayStation’s buttons are artfully revealed.

The RS-X models introduce a more adventurous colour palette. The “Grey” variant showcases a unique gradient design transitioning from light grey to blue in line with PlayStation’s lively interface.

You’ll find the familiar symbols of the controller buttons once more. Interestingly, this edition has turned them into stylish cut-outs close to the mudguard rather than being embossed on the fabric.

You will also spot these trademark figures on both the tongue tag and hangtag, further cementing the PlayStation’s authentic touch on the design.

The ensemble is completed with a semi-transparent sole unit, where the PlayStation button symbols artfully peek through in a broad display. It’s a detail that really brings the theme home.

We see a similar gradient pattern on the base of the “Black” version but with a predominantly blue colour scheme. Like its counterpart, it has the usual details/items, such as the controller elements near the mudguard, the tongue tag and the supplementary hangtag.

And let’s not forget about the sole. It stays semi-translucent but brings its own mix of shades to the table.

Release Details

The PlayStation x PUMA Collection is gearing up for a grand entry in 2024. With sizes available for the entire family, this iconic partnership ensures fans, young and old, can partake in the 30th-anniversary celebrations. Although the price points remain unknown for now, you should find this collection popping up in PUMA’s physical and online stores and in several select retailers sometime soon.
