SAW is a franchise that has dominated the horror genre since the first installment shocked and horrified viewers in 2004. Almost two decades later, the 10th installment has just hit theatres on the 29th of September. A Horror-Inspired Sneaker Design
What better way to bring in this new season of SAW than with this epic pair of Nike Air Jordan 3 sneakers inspired by the franchise and the puppet that is one of the franchise’s most recognizable figures and symbols? That’s right, it’s none other than the talking, terrifying marionette Billy, also known as Jigsaw.

A Closer Look at the Design
Outsole and Midsole
Starting from the bottom, we see a black outsole perfectly matching Billy’s hair and suit, contrasted by a stark white midsole matching the puppet’s skin. The usually clear window into the air unit of the sole is a deep red, reminiscent of a vial of…paint.
The heel area of the Air Jordan 3 midsole is usually a different color to the outsole, and the midsole is a very fitting bright red on this pair, matching Billy’s signature red tie and red lips.
Elephant Print and Leather Mudguard
From there, the elephant print we know and love about the Air Jordan 3 silhouette has been dyed a fitting crimson red with deep black cracks that contrast and add to the effect of texture.
The leather mudguard/panel that wraps around the whole front of the sneakers on the AJ3 model has fitting red spirals that look like they are dripping spray paint, perfectly bringing to mind the red spirals on the cheeks of the puppet’s face.
Upper and Eyelets
The upper of the sneaker is a bright white tumbled leather, bringing to mind both the white skin of the marionette doll and the tiled walls of many of the scenes of the movies throughout the franchise.
The eyelets throughout the sneaker combine metallic red and a plastic red that matches the “eyeliner” of the midsole. Beneath the upper eyelets, the panelling is white leather with a grey/black dotted pattern, sufficiently smeared with…more red paint.
The Highlight: Billy the Puppet
Arguably, the highlight of the sneaker is the collar area that features the marionette, the myth and the legend himself, Billy, complete with his tricycle against a gradient black to grey to red backdrop. And because it’s not just about him, the hang tag has been customized to display Saw X, proudly showing where the inspiration for these sneakers came from.
