The Spider-Verse gets bigger with every movie that comes out. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced the Spider-Gang, a handful of the many Spider-people out there. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduced an entire society of Spider-folk. With so many superheroes to choose from, why are we only getting sneakers inspired by Miles Morales? @glitchedgarbage has the answer with this epic pair of Nike SB “Spider-Gwen” Dunk Low sneakers.
Who is Spider-Gwen?
Although you might know who she is, Spider-Gwen is known by the nicknames Spider-Woman and Ghost-Spider. Her real name, however, is Gwendolyne Maxine “Gwen” Stacy.
Her character was created by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez for her debut in Edge of Spider-Verse issue #2, a comic book story that was part of the 2014-2015 Spider-Verse storyline. The character would then be a part of her own series, Spider-Gwen, which started in 2015.
The Gwen we know in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was born on Earth-65. On this version of Earth, Gwen was bitten by the infamous radioactive spider instead of her best friend, Peter Parker.
Brought to life with the voice of Hailee Steinfeld in both movies, Gwen is pulled from her own universe into that of Miles Morales, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Everyone is excited to see what heights Gwen will reach next, and it’s about time that the girls in the Spider-Verse got some sneaker representation, so thank you, @glitchedgarbage.
Nike SB “Spider-Gwen” Dunk Low Sneakers
Like every epic sneaker that has become a part of @glitchedgarbage’s Spider-Verse collection, these perfectly embody the character of Spider-Gwen in her epic suit.
One of the brighter spidey-suits out there, it makes sense that the majority of her sneakers would be white, including the midsole, the majority of the panelling of the upper, and even the interesting outsole, which starts at a milky white, fades to a semi-translucent blue, and back to a milky white.
The darker parts of her suit are represented by the purple toe box, which extends up to the tongue of the sneaker.
The upper proudly displays the pink and blue web design that can be seen on the inside of Spider-Gwen’s hood and the pink of the heel tab and the inner lining match.
As with many of @glitchedgarbage’s Spider-Verse sneakers, the eyes of Spider-Gwen’s mask can be seen close to the toe box, and a delicate spider dangles from the Nike Swoosh logo.
Speaking of the Swoosh logo, it has a stunning design that we haven’t seen in the range before, with distressed pieces that look torn away.
The sneakers are even cooler in the dark, reflecting many hidden colours and features that weren’t noticeable before.
The outsole glows a faint pink, but the ombre effect is still visible. At the same time, the previously grey-ish Nike Swoosh is a stunning rainbow, with each colour fading into the next.
As always, the eyes of the Spidey mask are reflective, as well as the spider dangling from the Swoosh logo.
Seriously, Nike needs to pick up what @glitchedgarbage is putting down and turn some of these stunning sneaker concepts into a reality.
