SWOOSH has gone ape on the Nike Air Max 1 with their upcoming “Big Head Origins” design, and quite literally at that. The platform’s upcoming design is sure to evoke fond memories of the legendary Donkey Kong Country game and its distinct retro aesthetic.
A Closer Look At The Sneaker
To convey its DK inspiration, the sneaker employs an array of brown and beige hues in different textiles. But what stands out most is the contrast between the brown shaggy suede and the sneaker’s beige mesh base.
The red Swoosh on the side, which is underlaid with yellow leather fabric, then provides a bold flash of colour. This combo serves up a nostalgic throwback to the franchise’s early graphics and adds a playful touch to the overall design.
Other playful elements include red upper eyelets, pixelated tongue tags, and insoles with a banana peel graphic and DS coins, reminiscent of the game’s own collectable DK coins.
The pair is finished with a yellow midsole and a bespeckled brown outsole that ties the design together. Even if it might not be a formal collaboration, this design has enough nostalgic allusions to cement the link to the cherished video game franchise, especially the earlier Donkey Kong Country game.
