The Matrix has been the pinnacle of action sci-fi since it aired in 1999. Since then, there have been sequels, games, and unofficial continuations, and the fandom for The Matrix has always stayed warm. The franchise also had a massive effect on fashion, with floor-length leather trenches and dark black sunglasses becoming the fashion statement of the time. Luckily for us, Brandon Krige, the fantastic designer at Fortress of Solitude, knows what he’s doing, and he brought a little bit of the simulation to the real world for us. Even luckier, it isn’t the real world from Neo’s time filled with terrifying machines.
Exploring the Design: A Stunning Colourway
Look at this beautiful Air Jordan 6 Custom Concept inspired by The Matrix. You can’t bring The Matrix to life without the combination of black and “Hacker” green, precisely the colourway we see represented in this pair, with a hint of white and icy blue translucent rubber for a stunning contrast.
Starting from the bottom, the outsole combines black and icy blue translucent rubber, the former complemented by green midsole “eyeliner”, while the latter is over a section of white to make it pop against the rest of the dark sneakers. The midsole is black to match the outsole and to bring back the darker theme.
Toe Box and Overlays: A Mix of Fabrics and Textures
From there, the sneakers move into many fabrics and textures to bring the sneakers to life. Starting with the toe box, we see a portion of rich green velvet, bringing a shiny softness to the rest of the otherwise heard and “synthetic” feeling sneaker.
From there, the black overlays the Air Jordan 6 sneakers are known for are made from black suede, perfectly matching the other darker parts of the sneakers while contrasting the green laces. The tongue and the lace unit are also black, perfectly contrasted by the satin piece you can usually find on the tongue of the Air Jordan 6 sneakers that bear the Air Jordan Jumpman branding. The lace pull mechanism also features a smaller Jumpman.
Upper Panelling: A Nod to Iconic Code and The Matrix Characters
The rest of the upper panelling is where it’s all at when it comes to these sneakers. The Matrix, the first successful sci-fi film that really pushed this idea of us being trapped In a simulation, popularised the futuristic look of lines of code falling everywhere and making up the world we think we are in. This is perfectly represented by the lines of code all over the upper in hacker green, all coming together on the centre area of the panelling to reveal three figures standing in the code.
This trio can be none other than the iconic trio from The Matrix, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus. However, the meaning is implied, and you obviously can’t see their faces, but if you know, you know.
