Nike Hasn’t Made This Yet — But This Black Myth: Wukong SB Concept Proves They Should

Sneaker artist Bob Ng has designed a Nike SB inspired by the Monkey King’s armour — and it looks like something Nike’s own team should have thought of first.

With Black Myth: Zhong Kui confirmed as the franchise’s next chapter, the Monkey King’s legend is far from over — and neither is the appetite for everything Wukong-related.

Sneaker artist Ng Poh Hian, better known as Bob Ng of @nobrainer.psd, has created a striking Nike SB concept inspired by the game’s iconic Monkey King armour — and it’s the kind of fan-made design that makes you wonder why Nike hasn’t already made this official.

In anticipation of more unexpected gaming partnerships, we’re showcasing his Nike SB “Black Myth: Wukong” concept here.

A Closer Look at the Sneaker

If you know the game well, you’ll instantly recognise that this pair is directly inspired by the protagonist and his Monkey King armour set. The base features a soft, ashy hue and scale-like accents on the quarter panels to mimic the armour’s plating. You also have dark blue overlays covered with dragon, cloud, and flame motifs and Chinese script on the ankle. To complete the armour’s distinct look, the Swooshes are done in metallic gold, while the collar and laces feature muted shades of purplish pink and red. Finally, this spectacular homage to the “Black Myth: Wukong” adventure game is brought to an end with a sail midsole and red rubber outsole combo.

Nike x Gaming: A Collab History Worth Knowing

Nike has been quietly building a reputation for unexpected gaming crossovers. Bandai Namco and Nike teamed up to bring gamers two special Tekken 8 Foamposite One sneakers featuring “Jin Kazama” and “Kazuya Mishima”. There’s also the popular Mario Bros x Nike Air Force 1, which brought retro Nintendo vibes to the Swoosh’s most iconic silhouette. Custom and concept artists like Bob Ng continue to push the conversation forward, imagining what the next chapter of Nike’s gaming collabs could look like — and the Black Myth: Wukong universe is one of the most compelling canvases out there.

Unfortunately, this design is currently in the realm of concepts. That said, Bob often brings his concept kicks to life for limited releases. So, you’ll want to make sure to follow this talented artist on Instagram to keep updated on his next release.

In the meantime, feel free to explore other sneaker designs inspired by popular video game characters. You’ll definitely want to check out pairs like the “Scorpion” Nike Dunk Low or the stylish Dunk Low inspired by “Akuma” from Street Fighter. There’s even a way to get your hands on a pair of customs inspired by Sonic’s F1 racing car design. So, be sure to follow us here at Sneaker Fortress for more amazing custom and concept kicks.

With the Black Myth universe expanding and a new game already in development, collaborations like this feel less like a dream and more like an inevitability. If Bob Ng’s designs are anything to go by, Nike would be foolish not to make the call.
