Throughout his illustrious career, Tom Cruise has shown that there’s no extreme he won’t go to in order to provide a thrilling cinematic experience. From death-defying stunts to taking up challenging roles, Cruise knows no bounds and is often willing to put his body on the line for a scene. However, a little known fact is that this adrenaline head doesn’t just have a penchant for high-octane thrills; Tom Cruise also got a keen eye for Nike Sneakers.
1. Nike Cortez Leather “White Blue”
If you grew up in the 90s or the 80s, the Nike Cortez will undoubtedly inspire a few nostalgic memories. Besides being a cultural emblem among the hip-hop community, this sneaker was spotted on the silver screen on the feet of none other than Hollywood actor Tom Cruise (as well as another Tom we all know). You might recall Tom Cruise’s memorable portrayal as Joel Goodson in the much-celebrated film Risky Business. Well, one of the things that truly stands out in the film, apart from the unforgettable scene of Joel dancing to the tune of Bob Seger’s Old Time Rock And Roll in his shirt, socks, and tighty whities, are his stylish Nike Cortez in a chic white and blue colourway.
The design: The sneaker has a white leather upper distinguished by a blue Nike Swoosh on the side. The upper sits atop the iconic foam midsole, accented by a blue wedge, and topped off with a grooved rubber outsole featuring a herringbone tread.
What we like about it: The Nike Cortez isn’t just another pair of sneakers. It’s an iconic design that’s been a staple in the fashion scene for more than five decades. Its timeless aesthetics have managed to endure through the years without changing much. And let’s not forget the all-important comfort factor. The foam midsole is designed to offer cushioning and support throughout the day. It’s truly an all-round win. Definitely one of our favourite pairs of Nike sneakers worn by Tom Cruise.
Release date: 1981
Where to buy it: Finding an unworn pair of this vintage sneaker could be challenging. However, if you are willing to consider pre-owned sneakers, a 1981 version is available on eBay. Alternatively, you can opt for a newer, similar design that is available on StockX.
2. Nike Air Max 95 “Neon”
One of Cruise’s more intriguing cinematic moments came in 1999 with the film Eyes Wide Shut, a thriller loaded with mystery, secrecy, and provocative narratives. Yet, very few people know that Cruise chose to wear a pair of Nike Air Max 95s during the rear projection scene where his character strolls down the streets of New York City. Even if these shoes never got the chance to be seen on the silver screen, there are still photos available to prove they almost made a cinematic appearance.
The design: The pair of Nike Air Max sneakers likely sported by Tom Cruise is none other than the famous “Neon” colourway. This style is a striking black, neon yellow, and white blend featuring four waves of gradient colour, from light grey to black. Mirroring the human form, the shoes’ design includes laces resembling ribs, an outsole inspired by the spinal structure, and an upper mesh and suede representing muscle fibres. Double air-powered visible cushioning with extra forefoot cushioning completes the distinctive design.
What we like about it: The Neon Air Max 95 colourway is a true classic in the sneaker world. Notably, it was the first-ever colour scheme of this particular model. So appreciated, it has seen at least ten releases in the past two decades, one of them in 1999, when the film hit the theatres. Such frequent re-releases by Nike highlight the timeless popularity of this colourway.
Model release date: 1995
Where to buy it: Hunting down the original “Neon” versions could be somewhat of a challenge. However, GOAT, FlightClub, and StockX are good starting points for finding a suitable version that fits your budget and style preferences.
3. Nike Air Max LeBron 7 “White/Black-Varsity Red”
We’re all well aware of Tom’s daring nature and how he performs his own action scenes. Well, back in 2010, he was preparing for a film called The Hardy Men (a modern take on The Hardy Boys), and Cruise was seen sporting the first colourway of the LeBron 7 while attached to a harness. While it’s unfortunate that this film never saw the light of day, the images of Tom Cruise rocking the LB 7 Nike sneakers live on.
The design: The LeBron 7 boasts a black, white, and red colour scheme with metallic touches on the top eyelets, heel branding, and a shiny patent leather mudguard. The sneakers also sport a full-length Air Max cushioning system and Flywire cables, visible through the see-through side walls.
What we like about it: It’s pretty simple, really. If the LeBron 7 gets Cruise’s seal of approval for stunts, it undoubtedly gets ours for everyday wear as well. To add to its allure, the black, white, and red colourway pays homage to LeBron’s stint with the Miami Heat.
Release date: 2009
Where to buy it: These sneakers can be found online at eBay, FlightClub, GOAT, and StockX, among others. Depending on the size you’re looking for, the pricing starts at around $80 USD and goes up to about $500 USD.
4. Nike Hyperize Air Max 360 “Les Grossman Custom”
You may remember Tom Cruise’s memorable stint as Les Grossman in Ben Stiller’s 2008 war comedy Tropic Thunder. But did you catch Cruise’s surprising appearance at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards as this character, where he showed off his moves alongside Jennifer Lopez? He was sporting an eye-catching pair of customised Nike Hyperize Air Max 360 sneakers inspired by the NCAA Tournament. These kicks featured fun, athletic emblems such as scissors and a net on the tongue, symbolic of the tournament’s net-cutting ceremony.
The design: The sneakers are presented in a chic white and black palette, complemented by golden detailing. The iconic Nike “swoosh” badges, arrayed in gold studs and glinting diamond-encrusted “LG” monograms at the end of the laces, add the right amount of bling.
What we like about it: Tom Cruise’s character, Les Grossman, is a fearsome yet entertaining Hollywood tycoon who also happens to be an unlikely dance sensation. These flamboyant sneakers absolutely nailed the bold essence of his character.
Release date: 2010
Where to buy it: You can find a pre-owned pair of these sneakers on eBay in size 12. However, you’ll have to add your own bling to get that Grossman flair.
5. Nike SB Dunk Low “Diamond Supply Co”
Could you have guessed that Hollywood star Tom Cruise has a soft spot for the “Tiffany” Dunks? Well, it turns out he does! Brooklyn Projects skate shop owner Dom Deluca spilt the beans about how Tom was a little more than excited to acquire a pair of these exceptionally beautiful sneakers from his store. Even though we’ve yet to catch a glimpse of him strutting around in these eye-catching shoes, we are certain they occupy a special place in his collection.
The design: The Dunk Low’s upper shines with crocodile-embossed leather detailing, contrasted beautifully with vibrant Tiffany Blue-style base panels. Complementing this, you’ll find a “Metallic Silver” Swoosh, crowned by a tongue tag embellished with the Diamond Supply Co. diamond logo.
What we like about it: These striking kicks, designed by Nick Tershay, are widely considered among the most beautiful SB Dunks ever created. The sneaker caused a stir back in 2005, creating long queues and marathon campouts at skate shops upon its release. The captivating colour scheme and choice of materials lend this shoe a unique and luxurious appearance that keeps it in high demand, even years after its initial launch.
Release date: 2005
Where to buy it: You can purchase a pair from GOAT, Sotheby’s, or StockX. However, prices can soar to around $8000 USD, so be sure to compare offers for your size before you commit to a purchase.
6. Air Jordan 11 “Concord”
There’s no questioning the legendary status of the “Concords” in the Air Jordan series. The very first appearance of these shoes was during the 1995 Playoffs when Michael Jordan sported them against the Orlando Magic. Despite being cautioned by Tinker Hatfield that the shoes weren’t quite ready, Jordan couldn’t resist slipping them on for the game. That said, it wasn’t until November 1995 that the “Concords” were available for retail purchase. Since then they have undergone several revivals, including in 2000 and 2006. But action hero Tom Cruise was snapped sporting these beauties ahead of their 2011 revival when he was out for a casual coffee with Katie Holmes in 2010.
The design: These sneakers feature a solid “White” upper contrasted by “Black” patent leather trim at the base. Among their design elements are a carbon fibre spring plate, nylon uppers in ballistic weave, a rubber sole with a herringbone traction pattern, a quick lace system, an encapsulated icy air sole, and a carbon fibre sheath.
What we like about it: The Air Jordan 11 silhouette is a beauty unto itself, but this black-and-white colourway carries additional nostalgic and historical weight for those who grew up in the ’90s. The timeless colour combo is effortlessly versatile, while the shining patent leather seals the deal.
Model Release date: 1995
Where to buy it: This colourway is available in various iterations from GOAT, FlightClub, and StockX. The 2011 version may even be available for as little as $307 USD.
7. Nike SB Dunk Low “Joe Strummer Before”
The Nike Dunk Low SB, released in December 2007, really took off, particularly among the punk crowd. This was primarily influenced by the shoe’s homage to the departed Joe Strummer, the dynamic guitarist and front vocalist for the iconic British punk group The Clash. The Nike Dunk Low Joe Strummer style pays tribute to Strummer’s well-worn Fender Telecaster guitar, with inspiration drawn from an interesting story about the finish on his instrument. Strummer had overlaid the original Sunburst finish of his Telecaster with a coat of black and grey car paint. This covering later wore off, revealing the original finish- a trend mirrored in the design of the shoes. Notably, Tom Cruise was seen wearing these much-sought-after sneakers in New York City back in 2008.
The design: These kicks have a suede and leather upper and a melding of colours, including black, metallic zinc, brown, curry, and cream.
What we like about it: The sneakers have an effortlessly cool vibe. The pair also has some subtle detailing that pays fitting homage to the late rock icon. Plus, Tom Cruise just makes these Nike sneakers look extra stylish.
Release date: 2007
Where to buy it: Limited sizes of the “Before” version that Tom wore are currently available on online platforms like eBay and StockX, starting at $1000 USD. For those willing to splurge a bit for this iconic design, the “After” version is available at Sotheby’s for $1200 USD.
8. Nike Air Force 1 Low ’07 “White”
Just like us, Tom Cruise isn’t immune to the appeal of the Nike Air Force 1 Low in its crisp, all-white colourway. The actor was spotted out and about Santa Monica back in 2009 wearing the timeless sneakers. However, it’s safe to say it wasn’t his sole occasion pulling out these classic kicks. Perhaps it’s that elevated midsole that has him sold on these.
The design: The Nike Air Force 1 Low White ’07 has an immaculate, all-white leather exterior complemented by Nike’s classic stitched heel logo. The streamlined all-white midsole completes the elegant ensemble. This take on Nike’s classic Air Force 1 model introduces a slightly higher sole into the mix.
What we like about it: The all-white AF1 has stood the test of time, earning its place as a trusty staple in many wardrobes across decades. It ticks all the boxes: affordability, sharp aesthetic appeal, durability, and style—it’s the complete sneaker package. If you want to check out more must-have AF1 colour ways, you can see our list of the best Nike Air Force 1 Sneakers here.
Model release date: 2007
Where to buy it: The much-coveted Nike Air Force 1 Low White ’07 debuted in 2007. However, this colourway’s popularity ensures regular restocking, creating an ever-available supply. Look no further than Nike.com for a pair, which sells for $115 USD. Alternatively, check out re-sale platforms such as FlightClub, GOAT, and StockX to grab either new or pre-loved pairs.
9. Nike Air Force 1 Low “Black”
Proving Tom Cruises’s affinity for the AF1 Low, the action star was spotted out and about in New York with his family back in 2010 sporting a black pair of the iconic Nike sneakers. While a black and white pair of AF1s may not be as popular as their all-white counterpart, Tom proves they are still a stylish choice to pull together a casual outfit.
The design: The sneaker features a black leather upper with white accents on the Swooshes and inner lining. The midsole is also covered in crisp white with the iconic “Air” detailing highlighted in black.
What we like about it: Let’s be honest, you can never go wrong with a pair of classic black sneakers. This particular black-and-white model, with its contrasting colours, gives it a distinctive and eye-catching look. Plus, the grey outsole accentuates its look even further.
Model release date: 1982
Where to buy it: While it may not be the exact colourway worn by the well-known actor, you can place a bid for a similar “Black Neutral Grey” pair on StockX or opt for the Nike Air Force 1 Low ’07 in “Black.” However, there are many black-and-white AF1 designs to choose from, with some featuring different materials or patterns for a unique twist on the classic style.
10. Nike Air Monarch 4 “White Navy”
Not one to shy away from a comfortable pair of kicks, Cruise was most recently spotted in the Nike Air Monarch 4. The model was designed to be a cross-trainer and an everyday shoe, making it perfect for flying around in your private helicopter as the multi-talented actor did in 2024.
The design: The upper part of this shoe is made of a hybrid of white leather and synthetic material, complemented by a metallic silver, perforated toecap. The white upper leather is decorated with navy blue accents and further amplified by the strategically placed silver Swooshes along the sides. Its distinguishing bulky aesthetic is highlighted by a Phylon midsole hosting a full-length Air-Sole unit. Moreover, the shoe sports a multi-patterned rubber outsole and flex grooves.
What we like about it: Sure, it has that ‘dad shoe’ vibe. But let’s face it, that trend has made quite the comeback in recent years. What’s clear is that these kicks are highly comfortable and offer excellent support. Plus, if they’re Cruise-approved, they’re certainly good enough for us.
Release date: 2018
Where to buy it: You can find a pair of these kicks on GOAT, KicksCrew or StockX with a starting price of as low as $49 USD.
