Not afraid to fly its flag high, the Ewing Rogue “Jamrock” is thoroughly Jamaican from top to bottom, reminding everyone where legendary Knick Patrick Ewing came from. With its sturdy construction and comfortable fit, we’re excited to discuss this sneaker, an excellent addition to the Rogue line.
All About The Ewing Rogue
Built to last and take on any court anywhere in the world, the Ewing Rogue is a sneaker about toughness and style. We’ve not written much about it on this site, but we have no doubt that it deserves its flowers. The kicks had been gone for a while, but now back by popular demand, this robust shoe is back and available for purchase.
The Rogue’s resilient leather upper can handle the wear and tear of everyday wear or intense athletic activity. Whether hooping with friends in a snazzy gym or roughing it out on a makeshift gravel one, you’ll be fine in a pair of Rogues.
In addition to being a hardy piece of kit, the Ewing Rogues have been released in some eye-catching colourways over the years. There’s the Rogue X Ace Ventura X Mache, which comes in a bright and beautiful teal, orange and white, all the way to the slightly more subdued Rogue Black/Gold/Gum, which looks like it’s fit for a king.
The Rogue sneaker line offers a spectrum of options to suit any personality. The iconic design itself is a conversation starter. It features a forefoot cross strap that makes the wearer feel locked in and supported in the midfoot section. This innovative strap system and a lightweight EVA midsole ensure stability and comfort.
The Origins of the Ewing Rogue “Jamrock”
While we’re excited to discuss the Ewing Rogue’s “Jamrock” colourway, we have to first discuss the man who started it all—businessman and basketball legend Patrick Ewing.
Ewing, a Jamaican-born giant who arrived in the U.S. in 1975, has always embodied the resilience of his Caribbean roots. This toughness would define his career in the NBA, much of which was in a New York Knicks uniform – a franchise known for its blue-collar attitude.
Unfortunately, though Ewing was great as an individual talent, for much of the 90s, his career became synonymous with one name: Michael Jordan. We’ve written an article about his dominance on the court and about each of the sneakers he wore as he won championships. Interestingly though, it wasn’t MJ who got in the way of Ewing’s championship dreams; it was Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson in 1994 and 1999, respectively.
Now, Ewing is channelling his competitive spirit and basketball knowledge into a different space – the business world. His company, Ewing Athletics, is returning, building on nostalgia’s power and targeting a specific audience. Ewing Athletics wants to resonate with a new generation while reigniting the passion of those who witnessed his Knicks’ dominance for themselves. This positions Ewing Athletics as a community built around shared memories and a love for the game.
The Design
The main thing you’ll notice when you look at a pair of Ewing Rogue “Jamrock” sneakers is how deeply inspired they are by the flag of Jamaica. It’s a shoe that screams national pride, and we have no doubt that the people of Ewing’s homeland will love it.
The sneaker incorporates a gold forefoot cross strap support system that enhances stability during movement. In addition, the midfoot inserts provide a comfortable, form-fitting experience. For excellent shock absorption, the Rogue “Jamrock” utilizes a lightweight EVA green and gold midsole, ensuring you stay comfortable and do not get tired of wearing the sneakers. This colourway has a premium green and black leather upper, assuring us it’s about quality and durability. The final touch is a Jamaican flag on the heel, just below the number 33, which was Ewing’s jersey number at Georgetown and with the New York Knicks
