With declining sales, Nike is reaching back into its archive and bringing back some of its more popular releases. And probably some of their more strange and interesting designs, too. The Nike Free Forward Moc 2 N7 has a Summer 2025 release. And yes, it’s still the weirdly formal-casual-comfy you remember from back in the day.
Set to drop on June 21, the 2025 version of the Free Forward Moc 2 N7 sticks pretty close to the original 2014 design. It features a mix of black suede, grey textile, and bold turquoise stitching on the upper, glued on a white Nike Free sole. It’s basically what happens when a running shoe, a moccasin, and a boardroom loafer have a sneaker baby.
Back in the early 2010s, the Nike Free Run craze had everyone running like they were sponsored by the brand. Somewhere in that mix, Nike dropped the original Free Forward Moc, a sneaker inspired by Native American and Indigenous communities. Now, the shoe/sneaker is back just in time to confuse a new generation of sneakerheads.
As expected, reactions so far are mixed. “Why have I never seen these before?” wrote one intrigued commenter who seems excited for the release. Meanwhile, another Facebook user quipped, “Skechers’ copyright lawyers have entered the chat,” drawing a straight line between these and Skechers’ dad sneaker drops. And honestly, they’re not wrong. There’s strong HEYDUDE-vibes here.
Of course, the Nike Free Forward Moc 2 N7 isn’t for everyone. This isn’t the shoe you flex on the court or the club. It’s the kind of sneaker you wear when strolling on the beach or having a casual coffee meeting about crypto and luxury homes.
But will it sell out in 2025 the way it might have in 2014? Honestly, it probably won’t. But not everything needs to be hyped, raffled, or flipped on StockX. Sometimes a cool sneaker is just a cool sneaker. The Nike Free Forward Moc 2 N7 is comfy, stylish, and has a deeper cultural purpose. It doesn’t need to be any more than that.
