This year marks 30 years since the beloved fighting franchise “Tekken” first hit arcades in 1994. To celebrate the decades of intense battles and memorable characters, Nike has joined forces with Bandai Namco to launch a special Tekken 8 x Nike Air Foamposite One sneaker inspired by one of the game’s original icons.
A Closer Look At The Design
At first glance, these kicks might remind you of the “Eggplant” Foamposites with a simple croc print overlay added on the shell. However, there’s a subtle blue tinge on the iridescent upper that gives the design a distinctive flair. The design takes cues from Kazuya Mishima, a popular character who is also noted for his love of sneakers in his early bio. His signature purple crocodile leather coat inspires the colour scheme, which may explain why it is so reminiscent of the “Eggplants” upper.
From there, black leather eyestays, laces, and tongue detailing further accentuate the design theme. What’s more, several special Tekken motifs appear on the tongue and insoles, while a striking red “FIST” graphic graces the icy translucent outsole, paying homage to Mishima’s signature move.
But if there’s anything we can ALL marvel at with this release, it’s definitely got to be the special packaging these kicks come in. The cleverly designed shoe box splits open in the middle, with both shoes secured by elastic straps. And yes, the box is adorned with artwork from the game – showcasing Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama. Could this hint at a “Fate” pair on the horizon? Only time will tell.
Tekken 8 x Nike Air Foamposite One “Fist” Release Details
For now, Nike has yet to formally reveal the launch date for these exciting Tekken 8-inspired Air Foamposite Ones or their counterparts; rumours suggest they could debut on Nike SNKRS US in September 2024. If the speculation holds, expect them to retail at $250 USD for men’s sizes.
