Being a performance brand at heart, “a global leader in the sporting goods industry,” it’s expected that the lines between the adidas lineup of lifestyle and performance products would often be blurred. However, the brand has leaned heavily into producing products that could fall on either side of the line with the likes of the Mad IIInfinity, adidas AE 1 and pretty much its entire adidas Originals product line. For its latest release, the trefoil brand has created a running-inspired lifestyle sneaker in the form of the adidas Adizero Aruku.
The Adizero range is synonymous with the ultimate in running performance as the brand’s premium running shoe. While it has been a favourite among pro runners and other athletes, adidas has added a new spin to the range and converted the sneaker into an everyday lifestyle sneaker.
Known for pushing boundaries on its athleisure wear, adidas has merged the world of performance runners with an everyday concept for supreme comfort. The sneaker was initially doing the rounds and rumours a few months back and was later confirmed with its showcase event, which included rapper Gunna. At the time of the announcement, there wasn’t any formal confirmation on the release date, with most of the industry slating it for an early 2025 drop. However, Christmas has come early, with some colourways for the sneaker that have already been spotted online.
Aruku is a Japanese term for ‘walking’ or ‘to walk.’ And that’s exactly what the adidas Adizero Aruku was designed for. We’ve seen plenty of other leading performance brands release their variants of the chunky sole lifestyle shoe, which has been quite a success. The chunky sneaker came back into focus around 2019 and 2020 but just as quickly vanished from mainstream style. However, it has made a return again over the past year.
The signature colourway for the adidas Adizero Aruku features a mix of red, white and black on its textile and breathable mesh upper. Its chunky midsole features a rubber sole and adidas’ Swirlfoam for cloud-like cushioning for all-day comfort. It features its signature 3-stripes logo on the medial and lateral sides of the sneaker, closely resembling that of the Ultraboost range. The design is rounded off with its TPU overlay panels and a heel counter for added stability.
There are currently four colourways for the sneaker, in addition to the red and white mentioned above. The other three include a black variant (Core Black / Core Black / Iron Metallic), white and grey (Cloud White / Cloud White / Silver Metallic) as well as blue, white and red option (Collegiate Royal / Bright Red / Cloud White). There are many more colourways and styles to be released over the next few months, so be sure to keep an eye out if you’re a fan.
