With Toy Story 5 arriving in June 2026, there’s a real buzz around the animated feature again. And in order to ride the hype, Adidas has decided to go “to infinity and beyond!” with their latest collab. The new Toy Story x Adidas Adistar Control 5 Buzz Lightyear is the type of sneaker you’d expect from customizers, with glowing LEDs and colors inspired by Buzz himself. Thankfully, this one is getting a full family-sized release, meaning even adults can join in on the fun.
Pixar and Adidas have been collaborating on sneakers inspired by Andy’s bedroom toys since 2019, around the time of Toy Story 4. But their latest release feels like it’s committed to the character more than some of the other drops. You can tell this is a Buzz Lightyear sneaker without mentioning the shoe’s name. The white mesh upper, the lime green overlays, the purple details and the metallic silver support panels all clearly point to the character. Even the Three Stripes (red, green, and blue like Buzz Lightyear’s suit buttons) are a dead giveaway.
We’ve seen sneaker customs that have done a great job of capturing the character over the years, but it’s probably the first time an official release got it this right. And that’s what makes the Toy Story x Adidas Adistar Control 5 Buzz Lightyear (a mouthful) so special.

The colorway comes wrapped over the Adidas Adistar Control 5, the 2008 sneaker that made a comeback in 2026. And while it could’ve been just a simple dad shoe (like all the others), adidas have actually added LED lights to this pair – and, yes, they actually work. Again, that’s another feature you’d usually find on a custom.
There’s one issue, however. For some reason, Adidas has limited the glowing green and purple midsoles to the kids’ (or smaller) pairs. The adult pairs are boring – without all the LED lights. Well, that sucks.
Still, there are plenty of sneakerheads online that are totally into the Toy Story x Adidas Adistar Control 5 Buzz Lightyear. On Instagram, the comments show a lot of fire emojis. “8yr old me and my 8yr old son approves,” one person wrote. Another added, “I don’t hate them, this is how anime/cartoon collabs should look like.” In other words, they actually look designed instead of just adding a logo on a sneaker for nostalgia.

But some people feel like they’re strictly for the younger gen. “I would only rock these if I was going to Disney or something, but still clean,” someone commented. And that’s probably the honest truth. The Toy Story x Adidas Adistar Control 5 Buzz Lightyear is a pretty out-there sneaker. And it will probably work best for outings with the kids or a visit to a theme park.
The Toy Story x Adidas collection drops June 6, just ahead of Toy Story 5 arriving in movie theaters on June 19. Adult pairs retail for $130 with the style code LA3965.
