adidas Originals has recently released several of its classic designs. This includes a farewell sneaker, adidas Birmingham, from the legend Ozzy Osbourne, as well as the adidas Samba X BRU SLEE and everyone’s favourite, the Superstar. For their latest drop, the brand has partnered with Brain Dead for the release of a wrestling-inspired collection. The adidas Originals x Brain Dead collab announces the Japan Flames collection.

Brain Dead is a creative studio with ties to street culture, featuring a collective of artists, designers, musicians, filmmakers and many more creatives. The brand launched its own professional wrestling promotion, Brain Slam Wrestling, in Los Angeles in 2022. They’ve continued to pave the way for creative ideas in this space, paying homage and advancing wrestling culture. With its partnership with adidas Originals, the team combines to create a vibrant aesthetic and iconography for wrestling with its Japan Flames collection.

The Japan Flames features a reimagining of a range of adidas classics. This includes the the iconic Stan Smith, the Forest Hills silhouette, and includes an exclusive revival of an obscure piece in the form of a 70s bowling shoe. The collection features distinct takes on these iconic sneakers on the Originals’ iconic Japan franchise. There are two sneakers rebirthed include the Japan Lo Brain Dead and the Japan Hi Brain Dead.

Starting off with the Japan Lo Brain Dead, which has gained attention in recent years. With its elegantly sleek look, it takes on a new dimension in paying homage to Japan’s enduring impact on the world of wrestling, thanks to the Brain Dead makeover. It has a leather upper with a two-toned suede flame overlays. The leather contrasts against the three stripes, furry laces and co-branded sock-liners. There are two colourways for the drop, which include a brown sneaker with yellow detail and green accents, as well as a black sneaker with blue details and off-white accents.

The Japan Hi Brain Dead was designed as a wrestling boot. Similarly, it includes the flame aesthetic with contrasting colours and detailing to the three stripes. It is available in a single colourway, featuring a black base, off-white details, and pine green accents to complete the look.

The adidas Originals x Brain Dead Japan Flames collection arrives on 28 August 2025. It’ll be available online from adidas.
