Custom sneakers are nothing short of wearable art. The level of skill and dedication that goes into their creation is truly commendable. From intricate hand-painted designs to detailed stitching and premium materials, each pair is a testament to the artist’s vision and talent. Consider the custom Air Jordan 1 “Black Shell,” affectionately dubbed Tootsie Rolls, brought to life by Bakashi Studios. This masterpiece required approximately three months of meticulous effort from concept to completion.

A Closer Look at the Air Jordan 1 “Black Shell”

Air Jordan 1 "Black Shell"

You only need one glance at the exceptional Air Jordan 1 ‘Black Shell’  to know that a substantial amount of time and effort was invested in its creation. Not a single detail is out of place or overlooked. From the top, the toe box, heel, ankle flap, and side Swooshes are crafted from a smooth black leather sourced from Horween Leather.

However, the true hero of the design is the exquisite brown shell leather that wraps itself around the rest of the sneaker. For those unfamiliar, shell cordovan is a unique leather made from a specific part of a horsehide, known as the “cordovan,” located near the rump.

This leather is not only durable and strong but also luxurious and glossy. Its resistance to creasing makes it ideal for sneakers, ensuring they retain their pristine look over time—a major plus for any sneaker enthusiast. Plus, shell cordovan develops a unique patina as it ages, making each pair a one-of-a-kind piece.

That said, turning cordovan into shell cordovan is a labour-intensive process involving several steps and can take up to six months to complete, contributing to its high cost. But as you can see, the results yield a genuinely luxurious and stunning sneaker that’s worth every penny.

Further enhancing the opulence of this pair are the lambskin leather inners and round wax laces, which add a gentlemanly touch. The sneakers are finished with a white midsole and a black rubber outsole, keeping the classic sneaker aesthetic.

With all the meticulous detailing, from the stitch work to the carefully chosen materials, it’s evident that these custom sneakers are not just shoes but wearable masterpieces.

How to Have Your Own Custom Pair Made
