The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo has been breaking records since its initial release in 2020 and its race-edition Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 in 2023, with its record-breaking debut at the 2023 Berlin Marathon. The highly anticipated follow-up to this record-breaking running shoe, has finally been announced. The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 was released this past week
Building on the legacy of its predecessor, which holds several national records and an Olympic record, adidas continues to push the boundaries of performance with the Adios Pro Evo 2. The new shoe has been engineered to deliver even greater energy return and race-day speed.
The Adios Pro Evo 2 design aesthetic is an evolution of the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. It features a minimalist silver finish, highlighted by bold red three stripes designed to be visible at any speed. It features an incredibly lightweight design, weighing just 135g, which reduces the overall weight carried with each stride.
There are several key elements at the core of the update. This includes a series of technological enhancements designed to give athletes a competitive edge:
- Improved Midsole: The new adidas LIGHTSTRIKE PRO EVO foam stacks an additional 3mm in the forefoot (an increase of 10%), delivering 5% in energy return
- Enhanced Outsole: The Adios Pro Evo 2’s new outsole features a grid-like pattern on the forefoot to offer enhanced traction at every toe-off
- Forefoot Rocker: placed at 60% of the length of the shoe
- Measurements: Heel: 39mm, Forefoot: 36mm, Drop: 3mm
adidas’ VP of Product, Running and Credibility Sports at adidas Running, Patrick Nava, had this to say about the release:
“The design process for this shoe was a challenging but ultimately rewarding pursuit that started with simply looking at how we can make the fastest shoe we’ve ever created, even faster – all whilst keeping the weight consistent. The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 is born from our relentless pursuit of speed – refined through rigorous testing – from the high-altitude training camps in Iten, Kenya to our innovation labs in Herzogenaurach. Working alongside our elite athletes like former world record holder Yomif Kejelcha, we’ve developed a shoe that delivers more energy return and a more efficient running economy with no compromise on agility. We believe we’ve delivered the best experience yet and can’t wait to see possibly the fastest shoe we’ve ever created flying on the road during marathon season.”
One of adidas’ athletes, Tigist Assefa also commented on the new Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2:
“Having broken the women’s marathon world record in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, I couldn’t wait to try the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 – and I have been blown away by the experience. It offers incredible lightness while providing energy return and bounce underfoot, giving me a feeling of comfort and confidence to focus on running my best race.”
Be race-ready with the new and improved adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2. The running shoe made its debut at this week’s London Marathon. It will be available exclusively online via adidas.co.za, with a broader release expected in the upcoming marathon season. It’ll retail at a cost of R11,999.
