LeBron James is heading into his 23rd NBA season. That’s a pretty big milestone. And, of course, Nike is jumping onboard the hype train and setting the stage for the next chapter in his signature sneaker legacy, too. The Nike LeBron 23 “40K+” is on the horizon, and the latest e-commerce images give the clearest look yet at the shoe that celebrates the King’s historic 40,000+ career points milestone. And, oh boy, it’s bright! Really bright! Shimmering gold bright!
The “40K+” colorway is hard to miss. The upper is draped in metallic gold that shimmers with iridescent hints of blue, green, and red. The lower half of the upper features perforations forming James’ crown logo, while the top displays a repeating pattern. On the heel, “40K+” is stamped, tying the theme directly to LeBron’s scoring record. Nike is also making sure the presentation matches the hype. Each pair comes in special holographic packaging with a career pamphlet and a gold 40K+ charm.

Images suggest a ReactX-cushioned insole, although Nike hasn’t confirmed tech specs yet. The shape sticks close to the LeBron 22, with a protective collar and a mudguard extending from the sole. Some fans have drawn comparisons to the Air Jordan 15 and the Air Flightposite 2, a nod to Kevin Garnett’s old signature line, which LeBron has long admired. The Foamposite-style upper promises a more molded, protective fit, especially for the rigors of a full NBA season.
Cushioning details remain mostly under wraps, but elements like Cushlon 3.0 and ZoomX are expected, following trends from Ja Morant, Sabrina Ionescu, and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent releases. The outsole has been redesigned, replacing segmented traction with full-length rubber, stability zones, and flex grooves that could work with enclosed Air or Zoom units.

LeBron has been spotted in wear-test samples, all black and swoosh-less, during workouts with Chris Johnson, founder of JUSHOOP™. These stealth pairs are a standard part of Nike’s process, keeping unreleased designs under wraps while they get tested at elite levels. Early shots show a sneaker that is functional, protective, and clearly built for performance.
The LeBron 23 “40K+” will release in men’s and grade school sizes (style code IM9007-900). Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but the shoe is expected to drop via Nike.com by the end of October, lining up with the new NBA season.

The internet’s reaction to the “40K+” has been very negative, however. On X, sneakerheads left comments like “Box better than the shoes” and “Legit hasn’t made a good looking sneaker since 2012.” Others were blunt: “Trash.”
Love it or hate it, the LeBron 23 is another milestone in one of the longest-running signature sneaker lines of any active athlete. Will these sell out faster than his Barbie doll?
